Get pivot pro software.  Free trial download at:

Worked well but since I dont run anything but mame on my vertical monitor I didn't need it.

Sorry forgot to add I used it on my 15 inch CRT and it worked fine.  Not just for LCD screens as the program seems to indicate.

However not all CRTs are created equal. Some dont like it on their sides.  I had to cut holes in the case to get proper cooling of my monitor since there were none on the sides and I could not remove the whole case without loosing proper support of the CRT for this particular model.

As bob said it depends upon the monitor.  The best thing to do is sit it in the aproximate postion you will want it and let it run for a few hours.  If the picture is still clear then it should be ok.  If not then you will hae to find anohter monitor.

If you have an nvidia geforce 2 or better card you can use the new line of detonator 40.xx drivers. They support rotation. And the best thing, unlike pivot software, with full hardware support so it is way faster...I don't see any noticable speed hit anymore with these drivers when running windows rotated.

These rotate everything...this means that everything is rotated also mame and that is why you will have to use rotate for vertical games...ie as the display is rotated what was vertical before is now horizontal...a horizontal game will appear horizontal when you look at the vetical screen...hehe is this making sense ;-)

I think you said it backwards, I still don;t know if you NEED to use -ror for vert games.  You say it rotates everything, yet say you have to rotated.  But if it rotated everything, wouldn;t the vert games be displayed correctly since it would be rotated by the drivers????

Yeah I must be looking right through it..I just put a Radeon 8500 into my primary MAME PC (unbuilt cab), and I'm putting a Radeon 7500 into my mini-mame cab (also, unbuilt, but due to begin prototyping this week!)......on the 8500 I'm not seeing a monitor rotation option anywhere.

Does the DVI port have to be engaged for that option to appear!!??!?!?!?!

I am running a ATI Radeon 7500 on WinXP with the latest drivers. Driver Build 6.13.10.6166 ant the ATI Control Panels. And if i click the ati icon in the taskbar i have the option to turn the picture 90, 180 or 270 degres..     ;D

Works lika a charm..
