Title: What is a fair price for Donkey Kong?
Post by: clanggedin on December 19, 2004, 11:16:45 pm
I posted this also at RGVAC, but I want your guys advice also.

I just found out today that a family friend of mine has a working Donkey Kong in their basement in great condition. They say they also have boards for DK2 and DK3 with it. They are willing to let it go, but they want me to name the price.

I want to be fair with them, yet I don't want to get ripped off either. What amount should I offer them for the cab and the 2 boards?

Working Donkey Kongs are all over the place. Low end is $300, high end is $1000. I would personally offer a $100 bill for it.

Don't DK2 boards go for between $100 and $150 because you can turn them into DDK boards?

Paige is a lot more into this than I so I'd trust his instincts on this. I was going to say $350 for the DK would be a fair price for a DK in good condition. That's without the DK2 and DK3 boards.

Oh, $350 is also a fair price. But they might very well accept $100, you take the game away, and all parties are happy.

After all, the only real price of something is the one both parties can agree to.

Also, the value of the high dollar raster games has been on a nose dive, lately. In another 18 months that Donkey Kong might not be worth the price of its parts.

Yeah, Mike's good people. He did my DDK and I've never had a hitch with it :)

One tip: Don't feel bad about a low offer. If it's all you can afford, and they think it's all you can afford, and they agree to it, then everyone's happy.

I was hoping you guys would say $100  :). I will either offer them cash or some type of trade. They have a PS2 for their grandkids and I told them I could modify it for them if they wanted.

If they end up wanting more for it like $600-$700. I have a 1990 Honda Big Wheel that I rebuilt last year that I would see if they wanted for trade.

I'm going to negotiate tonight with them. Lets hope they'll take the $100. I don;t want to part with my FatCat just yet, but I will if I have to.
