Title: New PC for sale - made for MAME cab
Post by: OSCAR on October 04, 2002, 10:46:31 pm
I have a brand new PC for sale.  It was built for a customer, but they went M.I.A. when it came $$ time.  Here are the specs if anyone is interested:

Curious, what brand/model is the hd?  After reading slashdot 7200 doesn;t mean faster:)

If noone says anything in two weeks AND this job interview goes good, I might be tempted.

I agree.  Right now I'm running (2) 100GB 7200rpm WD's w/ 8MB cache in RAID 0 on my main computer, and I really don't see a huge gain in performance over one of my other computers that has a single 40GB WD 5400rpm in my typical applications like web browsing and MAME.  Granted, when I'm moving large files around, my RAID is quite a bit faster, but under typical apps like MAME, I guess I don't see a huge gain.

This computer was built just for a MAME cab, and not as a workstation.  If you would prefer a different hard drive, just let me know.  I have quite a few (new) on the shelf, just let me know what you are looking for.

Here's the specs of the hard drive that I have in the PC:

MAXTOR 40GB 7200RPM
Model # 6E040L0 -D740X
IDE ULTRA ATA133
Seek time: 8ms
RPM: 7200
Cache: 2MB

XP 1800
1 gb ram
40gb hard disk
ati rage fury pro(rca/s-video out and rca input)
sound blaster 16

yeah, $565 is too much. i go to pricewatch.com and i can get the same setup minus the hard drive and DVD for $120 or so. uh, you may have payed too much. That Maxtor drive is worth about $50. I can buy an 80GB 7200 HDD at Costco for $100.

oh well, best of luck.

Sorry if I offended ya all by offering here first.

It's no longer for sale on BYOAC.  I'll send it on to eBay.

Please send me a link to those computers, if you would.  The video card alone is about $85 where I am.  Since you can get the mobo/cpu/ram/floppy/case/powersupply/etc.. for about $35, I'd be interested in picking up a few.

Not to beat a dead horse here, since the PC isn't for sale any longer....

But the topic wasn't how cheap you can build a PC for.  Was your $32 video card an ATI Radeon 8500 w/ S-vid & DVI out?  Try your pricewatch link on that one, and tell me what you come back with.  I am well aware of pricewatch, and I do use them frequently for price checking certain items.

I still would like to find those $120 PC's that magnet_eye mentioned that had the same spec's I posted.  In fact, snake, I would buy the same PC I spec'ed out from you for $300.  The mobo I'm selling is a 6-layer ASUS, not an P.O.S. 4-layer PCCHIPS, Gigabyte, ECS, Chaintech, etc....

Are you also offering a one year warranty on all the parts?  I'm going to PM you about picking up a few from you since you have such a better deal than I can find.  Thanks for the help!
