Title: Need opinions on an arcade machine fast!
Post by: shawnzilla on December 18, 2004, 07:10:07 pm
A local arcade went out of business today, the shopowner is selling a Spawn machine for $300. If I buy it, it has to be tonight before anyone else. The machine has a 25" monitor, and looks to be in pretty decent shape (needs some paint retouching).

Should I buy or run away?

Why are you buying it?  If you enjoy playing the game, do you enjoy it enough to pay $300+ to own it?  If you're buying it as an "investment" (e.g. you figure that you can sell it for more), I'd advise caution (you may find yourself the proud owner of a $300 cab which no-one wants).  There is a Spawn on ebay for US$550, but it looks like a conversion (two player CP).

Personally, I would also be wary of buying anything from a store which is going out of business. Tthe store may have debts or liabilities and the machine would be considered an asset.  Thus there may be a bank or even Uncle Sam who might argue the owner didn't have the right to sell the machine to you.

Cash and carry. Pay cash, give them no name, and take it when you buy it.

Decided against it. Could prolly get a better deal at an auction. Plus, the seller was not friendly at all. Thanks for the advice everyone!

Always hard to buy from a rude seller but sounds like a good deal to convert to mame

Spawn is a Naomi machine, right? If so, I'd grab it in a second.
