Hey guys!
I was surfing around on www.byopvr.com (http://www.byopvr.com) and found a link to another site http://www.tvharmony.com/blog/archives/2004/12/review_xplite.html with a review of this program XPLite http://www.litepc.com. They also have a 98 version I noticed.
I am not saing I tried it yet, it is shareware not freeware. (not sure if trial is crippled) So I don't know how well, personaly it works.
BUT, boy it sure sounds sweet. For us non registry hackers, it will disable all windows services/background operations/components and make windows "lite". It sure sounds perfect for dedicated project PCs.
Anyway, anyone tried it yet? Hope this excited a few others!!!

Ok, so I have been working 14 hour days this last week and haven't gotten caught up, like 10 threads do there was a discussion of the program, my bad. Seems like mix reaction on the quality. Howard says it sux, and I will admit his opinion is norm right on ;)
Try at your own risk :-X

I have no idea how it works for a cab.
98 Lite was one of the first pieces of software I purchased way back when. It works beautifully for my purposes, which are NOT cab related.
The shareware version is indeed crippled, but you'll still get a reasonable feel for it.
For XP, go to blackviper and utilize his recommendations first before giving that a try.
Howard_Casto has said it will mess around with your direct X install. If you want to give it a try, you can always download the latest direct X and install it.
While I've wiped a crapload of stuff off using blackviper's recommendations on my XP testing PC, I've also installed XP Lite and removed even more stuff. Two words - daddy likey!
Your experience with a CAB may differ. My testing is not for cab purposes, so use them for whatever you wish.
Drop me a PM if you want more info on what I did - realizing it's not cab testing I did.

I used to run 98 Lite, clean-installed to get rid of it, b/c I got a faster computer and HowardC said it could be keeping Johnny5 from working, but Johnny5 still doesn't work.
It seemed like a pretty good, but not fantastic program.
