OK, so here's the story. I got a REALLY REALLY good deal on a Sammy Guilty Gear upgrade kit.
It has the decals, manuals AND Atomiswave system plus the Guilty Gear X v1.5 cartridge.
I got it with the intention of ebaying it (last one went for $500, it is listed at $700 with the arcade distributors).
I'm guessing that I could also take it and find a good condition Jamma Cabinet and install it in there for a stand alone game.
What do you think, would it be worth it to hang onto the Atomiswave system ?. I won't be building my Mame Cab till next year after I move either way.
Thanks for your thoughts.

Holy smokes, I think that would be cool as CRAP to have in a cab alongside a mame system, or even by itself. I know all the new Neo Geo games I believe are coming out on the Atomiswave platform. Plus, I love GGX so just for that I would keep it. Mind sharing how much you paid for that, and could you take some pictures of the kit? I would love to see what one looks like.
Thanks, and good luck, Fred.

Here's a link to a place selling it with pics:

As much as I hate to admit it I got it for $30. It was a silent auction at a trade show I attended. It went so cheap because nobody (except me) really had any idea what it was.
That's the tough call. I think it would be cool to have in a standalone cab but $400 profit wouldn't be bad either.

You could run the board for a while, then sell the kit as a whole.
-
I'll give you double what you paid! ;D

Man for $30 I wouldn't even think about it. I think the actual thought of having a working Atomiswave board is cooler than $400 in my pocket. You would probably never be able to buy one of those things for that price ever again. I would probably stick it in a cab on location and run it, see if you can make some money off that thing. The board outputs at hi-res correct? GGX just looks amazing on a VGA capable monitor. You are a lucky SOB man, I wish I could get my hands on one of those for $30!
-
I'll second that. You should keep it and run it. That's what I would do, but you're not me. ;D $30 for an Atomiswave system is nuts! It's new hardware, so you should hold on to it. You never know what will come out for it.

I also concur, put together a whole machine and operate it somewhere for a while. Eventually it will make you that same profit and then you will have the $400 AND you will still have the game.

I'd just keep it & play it. Of course you have to consider that I'm pretty paranoid about damage to my toys.
