I *might* be starting up my cab project early next year. I have a Twin Eagle cab that I want to convert to MAME (sorry you pureists, but Twin Eagle is hardly a classic...lol)
For those that don't know, Twin Eagle uses a verticle orientation which works out perfect for me because all of my favorite arcade games are verticle.
Here are the games I want....I want to keep it minimal (no 4000 games for me).
1) Donkey Kong
2) Donkey Kong Jr
3) Dig Dug
4) Pac Man
5) Ms Pac Man
6) Frogger
7) BurgerTime
8) Galaga
Now, I also would like these games:
9) Q*Bert
10) Congo Bongo
11) Centipede
Q*Bert would require a diaginal and Centipede would require a trackball.
SOOO, my questions are:
1) What GREAT 4-way stick would you get? I personally like the red-ball tops because they remind me of the classics....also, I would like to avoid clickyness if possible but could live with it.
2) Is it worth getting another stick like above and rotate it 45 degrees for TWO games? What should I do for those two games? (Q*Bert and Congo Bongo) Keep in mind I love Q*Bert. :-)
3) If I put a small trackball for Centipede, what games should I add that use a TB? I don't like sports games and not really interested in anything recent (1992 + )
4) I probably won't play music on this so 5.1 surround sound is not needed. :-) So, should I just get a big damn speaker with amp to place in the middle or should I get two speakers and just split the mono signal to both?
5) Any games I am leaving out?
THANKS!!

I would say if you really love Q*Bert then it is worth it to have a properly oriented 45 degree joystick for it. There are also some ways to make an 8 way act like a 45 diagonal, search around here a bit and you will find the info on it, but I would say for the most realistic feel and to play it like you love it go with the correct stick
Missle command is another classic that would use the trackball...Im sure there are others, but thats all thats popping in my mind

you may have to get old leaf switch joysticks to solve the clickiness

if you love q-bert you better

crystal castles
missle command

that's what I'm going to do
Any games I am leaving out?
there are plenty more I'd put in there

GGKoul has a great thread in the Everything Else section on the best Trackball games...Check it out. One of my favorites is Marble Madness...

I would say if you really love Q*Bert then you not only have to have a joystick permanently rotated 45 degrees, but you also have to run QMAME and build a knocker inside your cabinet. Of course, you may not love it quite that much...

Thanks guys...getting a lot of recommendations for Missile Command but that is a horizontal game. :-)

Well, the cab I have now has two 8-ways in them so I will just take the left 8-way and change into a 4-way and take the right 8-way and make it a 4-way rotated...I do love Q*Bert.
The Knocker?? Man, I forgot about that....been so long since I saw one in an arcade! I might try to add a Knocker!! lol
Oh, and I am still needing some 4-way recommendations
Thanks!
