Post by: sasuke_kun12 on December 12, 2004, 06:00:11 am

probally not - it would be verrry slow. The lowest end PC ive had all the Metal Slug games running on well was a P3 750 Mhz. It was a little slow but but (just) playable on a P2 400 Mhz.

Hope this helps

Man, I must be doing something wrong. MS2 grinds to a halt on busy screens, and I'm on Athlon 2700+!

How are you running MAME? That shouldn't happen.

It's MAME32 .86

I plan to steer clear of MAME32 as soon as the cab starts coming together. It's just an intermediate solution (the easiest to set up)...

Sys specs:
Athlon 2700+
512MB PC-3200 RAM
RADEON 9600Pro 256MB
ABIT NF7-S mobo (integrated sound)
WinXP SP2

(planning on the same setup in the cab but with an ALL-IN-WONDER instead)

I'm running Windows command line MAME 0.86 on a 1.7GHz Duron with 256MB RAM. Metal Slug games run fine. I am running ArcadeVGA video card. Try changing to command line or what about frame skipping?

I just got MS2 to work on an AMD-K6 450MHz (PII 300, basically) at a tiny bit below fullspeed.  I don't quite see how it would be that bad on an Athlon 2700+

On my first Mame cab, Metal Slug played perfectly; and that was a slot-A Athlon 500mhz running DOS Mame 37b12 (as far as I can remember). I doubt it could play all so well on a P1 133, but it'd be interesting to see. If all you want the PC to play is that one game, you should try using an emulator other than Mame (a dedicated DOS Neo Geo emulator should give much better results).
Have a look here for DOS Neo Geo Emu's : http://www.zophar.net/neo-geo.html

Exactly.

Yep.

For a change, slowdown actually equals accurate emulation.

Who knew??

Wow! that thing blows my mame PC outa da water! Im using a PIII 850Mhz with 128Mb RAM and a Nvidia 64mb video card. I can play all (including 5) on this machine. Im using the command line version of mame though. The mame32 version slowed down on me too (MS2 I mean). For Metal Slug 5 I use neo rage. My OS is Windows 2k (SP 3).

Hope this helps
