Title: I'm a pack rat
Post by: Buddabing on December 11, 2004, 06:33:07 pm
Today I threw away my install floppies for Windows 3.1 and all my free AOL 2.0 floppies.

But I kept all my TRS-80 disks. (5 1/4")

Maybe I should get rid of my 5 1/4" drive. My wife tried to put a CD in it last month.

If you're into electronics, 5 1/4" drives are a wonderful source of parts. (especially stepper motors)

i got rid of all those 5.25 disk that was purchased on computer shows and still was still wrap too. I also got rid lots of 3.5 disk but I have copied them first to HD and burned them to a cd such as my windows 286, 3.0, WFW, all my NOVELL OS 3.11,3.12,4.0,5.0 and all my DOS games that was all in a 3.5 disk. Now I only got those cd stored and it should go bad when I'm about ASHES already :). However, I am still a Pack-Rat and that why I like playing that Game in MAME.  ;D

Burned the contens from my 'monster' 420MB hard drive onto a blank CDR a while ago. I remember the hassle of having to scour the house for its whereabouts, then the trouble getting a text file off it in my windows 2000 box, a quick dump onto CD and I won't be having to do it again. The missus always takes the piss out of me for 'hoarding' old technology, until of course shes looking for an old file thats tucked away somewhere ancient.

Having a few plastic storage crates certainly makes for the peaceful life  :)

Threw out a crapload (crapload=1-5 boxes) of amiga stuff, mainly disks. Should have been more careful though as I think I threw out some good stuff I needed. Like the power supply for the Amiga   :(

I just emptied out my computer/ game room so I can remodel the room. I have no idea how the pile of stuff I took out of there looks bigger than the room itself. I don't know how I'm going to get it all back in there.

I put a TRS-80 Model 100 notebook, Sega Saturn, and Game Gear on EBAY just recently.  I think I made aroun $80 or so.

I had them in storage for at least 5 years.  Got rid of them to make room for a bathroom in my basement.

I have a Genesis with CD that I need to put on there next.

I'm a Pack Rat too!

My wife and I moved in October/04 and we brought alot of junk with us.  Last weekend we donated 6 garbage bags of old clothes.

I still have my old C64 5.25 disks in the basement along with 5 cases of 3.5disks that contain lots of pir8te classic games.  I also have 7-8 business boxes full of NES and Sega games that I have collected over the years. And I have a box full of computer stuff in my office that I haven't opened since we moved.

Maybe one day I'll clean up my crap.

Pack rat? pbpbppbbpttt.

I've got three 10 x 30 mini-warehouses packed solid with stuff. Not only am I unwilling to throw it away, I'm paying for the extra space needed to keep from doing so. :D

I'm just beginning to believe what Peale was talking about before, de-junking.

At first I balked at the idea, but I've warmed up to it. I started with a couple of rooms of crap that I didn't use and got rid of it.

I haven't missed it at all. I never could find anything in the pile anyway. If I find something 'good' I put it into another pile of 'good' stuff that I never used either.  So I'm slowly trying to de-junk.

Sure, I tossed out some 'cool' good stuff, but I really don't miss it. I have more space and less clutter too.

Not that I have at all reached the penticle of spartanistic existance, but I don't have any 8 tracks in boxes anymore.  I hung onto the albums, I might make a wall hanging.

Are old computers (like pentiums 100-200mhz) worth anything? I have 7.

Most DEFINATELY!

Good doorstops are hard to find nowadays.

A few of those systems in good condition will fetch upwards of $2, so I'd either hang onto 'em, or ebay the whole collection  ;)

With old pentium systems yank the drives and power supplies and toss the computers themselves out. If you really NEED to set up a low end system you can get complete 400+ mhz systems for a $20 bill. Worth paying the $20 is you actually plan on using the systems. Stick the extra hard drive and RAM (if it will fit), in the newer one.
