UPDATE 12/13/04--
IT ARRIVED!....
I was literally shocked to see it on my door step. I was even more shocked to see that Ron (AKA- Mr. Arcade) hacked it as promised and packed it safely (I was surprised because I had no idea what to expect).
It's really too bad that this whole process went down this way for me and others (that bought parts from Ron) to the point that I had to involve the police department.
From my perspective Ron still has the opportunity to make good here at BYOAC by following up with anyone he owes anything to (money or parts)...which he appears to be slowly doing.
Ron, everyone deserves a second chance.....just try not to blow it next time. I'm sure people here will be quick
-
i feel your pain. I hope this works out for you
-
i'm guessing he really is having probs since he hasn't posted since sept 20th. who could stay away from here THAT long otherwise? ;)
-
actually if you check his profile (here-- http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?action=profile;u=243) he was last on the board 11/27.
Believe me...I've really tried to be patient and understanding...(I even have an email from him thanking me for being patient).
:-[
-
yes, i see. he last POSTED on 20/9 but looked in on 27/11. so he's got SOME time up his sleeve. hopefully this thread will wake him up! good luck. i'm having a bit of trouble myself with a dodgy ebay seller at the moment, but not to the tune you're in for...
-
....the worst part for me is that he's "one of us". That really bothers me a lot. >:(
-
I hate trolls.
I hope you can get this sorted out.

Also from his profile, apparently, he's 2 years old. ;)
I hope you get your yoke or at least your money back. Come on, Mr. Arcade. Step up to the plate here and make it right.
-
I really appreciate your support!...
-
So you have his email and phone number? You can do a reserve lookup on the phone number to get his address and then email me him or get someone here thats local to go visit him.
-
post his city and state to see if anyone is close
-
Sorry to hear that someone here has taken you for that much money. Hopefully he'll come clean and make this good.

-
call the police
-
call the police
I've thought about it.
-
Honestly I'd give him a couple of day s to either respond to this thread or contact you privately then I probably would go ahead and bring the police into it. $270 is too much to just let go.
-S
-
$270 is too much to just let go.
Under the $400 minimum for a felony charge, but enough for small claims court.
-
Well his profile clearly states "Ohio" for starters.
Maybe try calling Mrs. Arcade and get her to fight your battle for you.
-
Looking at his past posts, his ebay id is mameiac.
http://feedback.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewFeedback&userid=mameiac
By the looks of his latest dealings and his no longer user status I would say you are not the only one that has been shafted by him. Hopefully there isn't something seriously wrong with him, but if you have had correspondence with him throughout this, and he just checked the board as resent as 11-27, it appears that he just turned into a deadbeat or something. That is very unfortunate.

FYI- I've actually spoken w/Mrs. Arcade. She just takes my messages and says she knows nothing about what he sells on line.
Regarding small claims...I thought of that...but he's in OH and I'm in NYC. By the time I fly there to sue him...I'll be out $200+ just for the flight.
If someone is willing to pick this thing up at his house and ship to me...I would be happy to pay you something for that. But....I don't know anything about this guy...I don't know if even I would be willing to go to his house at this point!....if you're willing his zip code is 45885 (in Ohio).
I'm screwed...and he's obviously a real loser....how low do you have to go to rip people off for arcade parts. That's just so pathetic....and why it's so annoying and stupid.
I've come to terms with this...but, my wife is pissed off at me and I've had to deal with her for the last month telling me what an idiot I am. Stupid me for venting to her.....! ;D
-
...I hope no one minds I'm posting this here too....but I don't want anyone else to get ripped off....
---bottom line...BYOAC member "Mr. Arcade" stole $270.00 from me for a non existent Firefox yoke.
Here's the thread in "everything else"--

...thanks Saint....I was concerned this was taking an unwarranted dark turn here.
....I'm just trying to keep others from getting ripped off....guys....please "chill out" on the mean stuff. :-\
-
just curious saint.....can we view what's in post hell??? id love to see ;D
-
Right now he owes me $75. I paid him $175 for a monitor to be delivered to the St. Louis superauctions. He was there but did not have the monitor. He gave me back $100 and said he could send me the rest when he got home. I never got that money, and I sent him an email several days back and I haven't gotten a response.
He posted a message to RGVAC 5 days ago, so he is still around.
I have his address.
I am however waiting at least another week for a response from him before I go freaking out, as I didn't send him that email until after I saw the RGVAC post.
-
Not today - sorry :)

-
Hey, i got my first stuff sent to Post Hell. Of course, I didn't post anything worthy of it, but what the Hell, right? ::)
-
He did also give me a PCB (Cruisin, clone of City Connection) at the auction because he knew I was really into that game. I'll value that as $25 right there, so I would just be happy to get $50.
Personally I think he might be a little short on cash, and/or over his head. Lets see what he says. I am not freaking out about it yet.
-
I to have been swindled by Mr. Arcade. >:( >:(I bought two steering wheels for $85 shipped back in August and I haven't received a thing yet. He told me he is going through "financial difficulties" and would send it out as soon as he could. What kills me is that he requested postal money orders. I made sure I promptly mailed it off. There are so many cool people on this board that it sucks when someone like this comes along.
-
I to have been burned by Mr. Arcade. >:( >:(I bought two steering wheels for $85 shipped back in August and I haven't received a thing yet. Beware!!!
-
If you don't receive an item you paid for by mail you can file mail fraud charges for free. There's an online form on the USPS website. They will notify the guy of the charges and give him a chance to respond/fix it and then ask you some time later if it was resolved.
I think if they get multiple complaints they escalate the priority on it.
-
This "bad trader" thread may be easier to maintain than the "good traders" list.
Most of the folks I have dealt with here are honest and trustworthy.
My 2 cents.
-
>:( Rippers relly piss me off!
Yet another case for a dispute resolution/bad traders area on this board. There is a better way than this.
See my post in this thread:

If anyone is really interested in getting to a solution to what WILL be a growing problem, get in touch with me, I would be glad to help the moderators set this up. I was ripped off here too, so I know how it feels to have no recourse, it sucks. ARCADIAC!

Isn't that what heatware.com is for?
-
After quickly reading the heatware.com FAQ, it looks as if heatware.com does not assist in settling disputes, only pos/neg feedback issues. They link they recommend for dispute mediation is trollhunters.com who evidently only help solve disputes for certain boards. Admittedly I'm not very familiar with either of those sites, but personally I would rather have a dispute settled in-house here at the board where the deal was made, especially if it was made on an item listed in the BYOAC buy/sell/trade section. Just a suggestion, works quite well at another board that I frequent, disputes get settled most of the time and it weeds out the thieves. ARCADIAC!
-
Heatware is simply a 3rd party feedback site. It's a great idea, and it puts your mind a bit at ease seeing if a person has had good/bad feedback on it, but it is not meant to settle disputes.
Even with good heat though, people can still turn troll. I've seen it a lot on boards I frequent... people with previous good refs will still go bad. Do all you can to be safe. I never trade anymore without getting all the info I need from a person, including telelphone numbers etc. That won't stop this from happening, but with any luck, it'll help you resolve problems quicker.

In case anybody needed a picture or something, here is Mr arcade aka byoac's most wanted LOL :D

hey that wasnt necessary... all i said was i would go to his house if he was near me with my friends that are 6'6, we would just come over to play 4 player halo... duh what did you think i meant
-
What you guys should do is this:
Mamemaster calls the cops in this guys area. He talks to a detective and explains what is going on. The detective will give out his contact information to pass along. All you other guys that have been ripped off can call that detective. The detective will pay a visit. :police:
If you guys want to give him like 14 days, tell the detective that. He will pass the info along. If the guy ignores everything, he will get criminal charges against him. It will be a total value for the charges, so if it all adds up to $400 (or whatever the limit is) it will be a felony charge. Believe me, your stuff will ship the day after the detective visits, or you will be reimbursed.
Don't sit around and give him time. He offered the stuff and said what he would ship and when. He didn't do it. Call the cops.
-
Personally I think he might be a little short on cash, and/or over his head. Lets see what he says. I am not freaking out about it yet.
Being short of cash is no excuse for not sending out your stuff. If you've paid him for shipping as well, how does it cost him anything to do it? I was broke as hell when I recently sold stuff here and on ebay, but I didn't let that stop me from sending out the packages within a couple of days after payment.
Sounds more like he might be selling the goods to more than one person, then delaying refunds to buy himself more time. Not cool.
Also, if he is having financial difficulties, it's not going to help matters any if he ends up having to pay bail...if he screws enough people, he could have a class action lawsuit headed his way as well.
Bottom line: if you don't have the goods, don't take the orders. I am still in pretty deep financial need myself, and I have a waiting list for my cabs that I could take advance orders from today, to help me through this tough month.
But as I don't even have my prototype back yet, it would be very unwise to go this route in case it takes another month or two to have the first batch of cabinets made. I wouldn't want to start business with a black eye... :(

Sorry you got ripped off, but didn't this make you think twice?
"He insisted on IMMEDIATE payment and a bank check. I got the check made out from my bank for $270. and sent it to him right away."
That would have made me not buy. Even though paypal sucks, they do freeze the sellers account QUICKLY if you complain, and that has saved me more than once.

CENSORSHIP RULES! :(
I'd like to remind you, while freedom of speech exists in America, that doesn't mean everything American must allow free speech.
To put it in a physical sense, if you walk into Drew Karee's house, and start talking Bush hating, he has every right to kick you out. Personal property. Same if you go into GKGhoul's house and start talking Kerry smack.
This board is Saint's personal property. He can censor whatever he chooses.
It offends me people go off about freedom of speech on a forum. You want to speak freely? Start your own forum.
Amen brutha. If you leave my house with a BOOT in yer ayse, THEN you've got something to complain about, but freedom of speech, it ain't.
Now, back to the topic - I'd start by calling his local authorities, then I'd ALSO start the mail fraud thingy. TWO "dude, you'd better pay up" visits will get his attention quicker, and will also serve notice that there are more folks out there aware of his actions and that he is quickly becoming a criminal, instead of just a common slacker.
As for what 1UP said, I say righto! You guys had to SEND him money - it's not like you were asking him to ship it first and then you'd pay him later. You SENT him the money he would require to send your products to you. Either he is a scammer, or he's just a common slacker who wants to shirk his responsibility to people who sent him money in good faith.
There simply is not an excuse for this stuff. He asked you to send him money in a specific fashion, which you had to put aside "personal problems" you may have had in order to go get it. It also assumes that his "personal problems" are more important than yours, as now your wife is making YOUR life more unpleasant. The "personal problems" argument is simply an apathetic response which you simply cannot accept.
While I have no knowledge or dealings with this individual, it appears as if avoidance, excuses, and general disregard for buyers is a hallmark, and one that will happen in the future.
Thank you for your alert to this person.
-
Just so everyone knows....I've emailed "Mr. Arcade" to his email address letting him know I would be posting this.
I sent it to his posted BYOAC email address of--
mrarcade@bright.net
(Just in case anyone else would like to say hello to Mr. Arcade)
AND I PM'd him through this forum....I haven't yet called him. According to his profile the last time he was on the site was 11/27....so for kicks I'm going to give him a few days to catch up with this thread.
I'm really bummed he's obviously screwed more than me....I'm guessing I'm really never going to see that Yoke or my $$.
I agree w/1 Up...I have a feeling he's selling the same parts to more than one person.
Don't you guys agree that it's really pathetic to do this for arcade parts?.....I'm still in disbelief!...
I know...it's hard to imagine a hard core
-
not sure, but you might be able to sue him in NYC's small claims court. Not sure. But worth looking into it.
As for the freedom of speech... Keep it clean. Forums can go down hill SO FAST it will make your head turn... Starts with one thread where its justified... Then you will get people threatening front end devs for not adding a feature they want and say they will go to their home (really... why most mamedevs stopped looking at a lot of forums)
As for people who have been ripped off by others... I personally think that you should mention it. Tell facts and not opinions of that person. Why? I wouldn't have thought twice about buying from Mr Arcade. I've seen him here for years and would have thought he was credible...
Good to keep an eye out. I don't have all that much for my hobbie..and would hate to loose more...
-
...I agree.
In particular that's why I tried so hard to resolve this with him over and over for months (via phone/email) to no avail. I warned him I would post....and he responded by saying "...if you feel the need to..."......
well, that's why we're here today.
At least we're ALL aware of this guy now...as there's obviously a pattern here from "Mr. Arcade."
-
I'm not taking sides here or anything but I just wanted to let everybody know that I had a productive email exchange with Ron back in October that resulted in him providing a redump of the infamous "Sport Fishing 2" CD (sfish2.chd in MAME).
-
I spent several hours talking to Ron at the last auction, but that doesn't change the fact that he owes me money, has ignored my emails about it, yet is on RGP trying to buy $1000 pinball machines.

Wow, Paige is right. On Dec 1 the guy is angling to buy a $975 pin. Yeesh.
MM, you might post a "bad trader alert" on RGP, RGVAC, etc. If he is trying to do deals on those boards, it may get his attention to have the negative publicity. Good luck.

WOW....this gets better and better. He told me his personal problems were $$ related....now I'M REALLY MAD.
The fact he's trying to buy a pin with MY FRIGGIN' HARD EARNED MONEY is really beyond belief.
I just tried calling his home phone...but it may be disconnected.

Yeah, I have been following this thread and was leaning towards wondering if he had a personal tragedy or illness etc. that might explain the apparently sudden inability to keep his commitments, but seeing that pin post is unreal. I HIGHLY suggest you post a bad trader alert on RGP, RGVA*, and even Alt.Mame. Anyone else who has been burned should do the same or add to your thread(s) after they are posted. The folks in RGP will tear him a new one and it might put the kybosh on his pinball purchasing.
Don't let someone else get burned by this a**hole.

Mamemaster - I'll back you up about the swindling if you post on any other boards.
I cant believe he is trying to buy a pin with money he has taken from BYOAC members! >:( When I asked him a MONTH ago what was the delay he offered to add something extra to make up for the delay. How about sending the stuff I paid for to start!!
I hope he gets a stocking full of reindeer sh*&

I see in your other thread that you have now contacted the police in his area. I hope they are able to help you out before the dirtball buys that pinball machine he's been shopping for.

You're 100% correct...yes it did. But my desire for the hard to come by part (the yoke)...and the fact that he's "one of us" overrode my instinct. I saw the red flags...but choose to ignore them....and I literally paid for that.
Glad you didn't think I was blaming you. For some reason I thought my post had been deleted.
Maybe the cops will have a slow day there and go knock on his door. That would probably scare the s*it out of him.

Floyd10......how is NIVO gonna get flamed? My trading post, notice the date.....was long ago and he and I personally made 2 deals with each other that were fine. My dealing has nothing to do with the current problem going on between mr arcade and mamemaster. Dont bring me into this problem. While I am aware and reading as to what has been going on, I am sorry to see it even happen. Things like this give the whole hobby a bad name in general. Depending on how it was shipped, I've seen tracking numbers take a day or so to actually make it into the online system to be verified.

....thanks for the info. I guess I'll give it a few days. And I'll definitely keep everyone up to date on this.
THANK YOU EVERYONE for your support and suggestions. It was GREATLY appreciated! ;D

You know, I'm happy he gets what he paid for and everything, but you know, deep down...
I really wanted something to go down.
Like on CNN later tonight
"Police have just captured a man supected of stealing more than 5.1 million dollers US from ""forum baiting"", after a 5 hour shoot out at his house, the supect came out and wrestled with policemen for 15 mintues, after which he was thrown in a Police car, and taken to jail. His hearing date is yet to be known. In other news, don't be a fatty this christmas! top ten ways to loose all that weight you gained, fatty."

Yeah UPS usually doesn't get the numbers into the system for stuff I've ordered until the package is "Out for Delivery". USPS only updates once a night, also.
-
Just cuz the guy said he shipped doesn't prove anything.
-
I've had DHL tracking numbers not enter the sytem until after the package is in my hands. Of course DHL sucks.

-
was this for a working part? if so, can you test as soon as you get it?

...you're right. I still have the Police Officer's number. He told me to call if it doesn't arrive.

I paid for a hacked Star Wars yoke (usb via sidewinder). What i'll get is a whole other story...I'll post here when it comes (if it comes!).
-
I think most of us are almost as anxious as you are to find out what you get (if he really did send it) please do keep us updated. Although there's precious little any of us can actually do, you have our support in spirit anyway. Here's hoping it shows up fully functional.

Ok, I just got my refund from Ron via paypal. He had some money problems apparently and had the buyers of two custom machines back out after he finished them.
His phone, cable and internet have been shut off. He has a new yahoo address that he can check at the library.

I am merely repeating what he told me.

Flaming on this board gets you banned from this board. Behave.
I apologise for my ignorance, but what is flaming anyways?

I don't understand why so many people in the coin-op business are poor, low-life dead-beats. It can't possibly be a coincidence can it??

I think you just notice folks who might fit that description. I have met quite a few in the coin-op biz who do very well. Generally, it is the ones with a formal education in business or similar background that seem to do well. Not always, but many times that is the case.
In Mr. A's case, it could very well be that he did get in over his head, made a couple cabinets only to have the buyers back out. I built one cab for someone else and was sure to get the cost up front, the rest on delivery. If he backed out I would have just kept it or ebayed it so there was little risk to me. Mr. A, if his story is true, made a poor decision either by not requiring funds for the cost up front OR he was already over-extended and really needed the profit from the cabs. If the story is true, I think the former is probably closer to the mark. The real tell here though is the attempt to buy a pin a couple days ago. Either the story is a fabrication and he was trying to score a pin with other folks cash, or the story is true and MR. A has a very unhealthy obsession with games and he was still trying to buy a pin while his phone, cable, etc was being turned off. Who knows.

I agree, the recent revelation about this guy recently trying to drop a grand on a pin made me lose any sympathy that I might have had for him.

There are low life dead-beats in every business.

OK, this thread has moved beyond civil. Parts are being nuked to post hell. Keep it civil people. Thanks.
CENSORSHIP RULES!

Oh, and congrats to mamemaster for getting the resolution you needed.

A note from Slappy -
I wasn't getting huffy, nor was I rushing to Saint's defense.
I simply was stating a point that this board is Saint's property, and he has the authority to censor it as he pleases. Just as you were so eloquently stating your objections, ina very mature and thoughtful approach. No harm, no foul.
To your defense, this is the second time I've seen it. I just felt the need to state my case.
I did not mean to demean your intelligence by my example, nor did I mean to single you out. I was simply using your statement as an example.
-Slappy out!

True. The last thing I bought off Ebay arrived before the tracking information was updated at USPS......
-
Everytime I get a tracking number from USPS it always ends up saying to "Check back tomorrow as the info is updated nightly". Only ones I have ever seen as having reliable tracking info are UPS and Fedex.

glad to see it worked out for you....

Haven't been around much, since I am trying to focus on my studies for the time being.
I DID MAKE A PURCHASE THAT I TOO HAVE NOT RECEIVED, AND CONTACT WAS BROKEN OFF BY MR. ARCADE A LONG TIME AGO.
I was actually thinking of posting this same thread topic a few weeks ago; however, as a newbie, I was hesitant to do so unless it was the last straw.
There is MUCH MORE on this matter, but I am currently in the middle of finals this week.
Those of you who have interest in the issues with this guy will be somewhat interested in specifics with my "transaction."
:police: The law is going to step in for me though, and I WILL go so far as small claims court just because of the principle. But money isn't completely irrelevant, as I would first try for a spot on the Peoples Court to get the free airfair (+ all you guys would get to watch too!!!) :police:
More to come when exams are complete!!!
-
Go to Peoples Court if you can. The judge is a MILF.

:-\ I really hope that you guys aren't talking about Judge Judy!!! :o
::) And if you weren't.........I really hope your preference for retro is limited to arcade/video games, AND YOU AREN'T REFERRING TO JUDGE WAPNER!!!!!! :-*
Amazing how I can keep my sense of humor when being ripped for my entire monitor budget ($300), which I never would have spent had I known that Bush was going to cut one of my largest grants a week after I "purchased" it. Why can't college students have a guaranteed salary during their studies like those European countries with intersting furniture ???
-
sounds like mr. arcade is a dirtbag who only ships something after you call the police on him--wonder how many others he's ripped off cause they couldn't be bothered to call the cops--i still think someone should put a flaming bag of dog poo on his front step--just to let him know we are watching him 8)
-
I'd like to see Mr. Arcade post to this board, explaining his situation. That might even win him some sympathy. So far he hasn't. Best thing would be to tell everyone you know to avoid doing business with him until his "money problems" are sorted out.
-
I remember talking to Mr.Arcade in the BYOAC chat room before (a year or so back). He had always seemed like a cool guy. He is even the one responsible for the "BYOAC People Finder" linked at the top of these pages. So I was really shocked to read these accounts of people getting ripped off by him. He must have fallen into some really dire straits.

This is because USPS Delivery Confirmation does only that...confirm the delivery once the package has arrived. Its not ment to track the ongoing status of the shipment like UPS or FedEx. Its also only $0.45 extra on priority mail, so you can't expect much for that! ;D
-
I was ripped off by someone on this board as well. I'm not going to bother to say who, he knows who he is.
thanks for looking out for the rest of us
