Hi all
I have purchased a 68 cm Sony Trinitron TV that i am looking to mount in my cabinet.
The problem is the speakers make the case too wide so it must be removed....
I have taken the back off the TV to look into a way of mounting the TV.
My mate is a welder so we have proposed creating a metal frame that connects to the 4 bolting points at each corner of the tube (these are currently used to hold the front of the case on). This frame will create a foot that the TV will sit on, suspending it in the cabinet. The circuit boards will be left in their current plastic housing and screwed to a wooden bracket accross the frame.
The only points of contact between the metal frame and the TV would be at these 4 mounting holes.
My questions therefore are:
Will this frame cause electrical falts / magnetic fields / electrical build up or any other sort of hazard?
Should i discharge the monitor even though i will not be removing the HV lead?
What other hazards should i look out for as i am mounting the TV?
If anyone else has taken this approach any insight would be great...

How about you get square piece of wood, cut a holw in the centre for the screen to poke through nice and snug, and then screw those 4 front mounting holes to the wood. Now mount the wood to the cabinet.
Cut two handles in the wood, one top and one bottom. Now if you decide you want to play a vertical game you just release the wood, grab the handles, pull the screen out and rotate it and plop it back in the cabinet.
Simple but effective.

oh and of course the wood won't conduct any electricity should you have a problem, unlike a welded frame.

I've thought about this idea, the problem is the thickness of the wood to the left and right of the screen would not be enough to support it i believe.
I only have a few mm either side of the tube to the edge of the cabinet, thats why it is out of its case to start with.
Also it would be easier to install the monitor with a frame as i can screw it to the cabinet staying well clear of the TV's circuits
The screen won't fit vertically in the cab either so rotation is out of the question.
Still thanks for your input, ill have another look, maybe a wooden frame is possible but i would still like to know about the issues of going with a steel frame

I have made a metal frame to mount a 27" tv before and it worked out okay. I was concerned with all the weight being on the mounting ears of the tv tube as they didn't look real heavy. I ended up leaving the front plastic housing piece on the tv so when I made the mounting bracket I designed it so that the housing held alot of the weight.
