Title: Tron Repro's on eBay
Post by: coasternuts on December 07, 2004, 05:58:07 pm
Is anyone planning on buying one of these:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=13718&item=6136261011&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW

I was wondering of the feel of these.
I was thinking of trying to do Oscar's 1Up hack with it

http://www.oscarcontrols.com/projects/triggerstick.shtml

But $45 seems a little steep.

Opinions, comments,  warnings?!?

Thanks,
-coasternuts

ps.  I would really like to reproduce the Tron experience if I could.

$45 seems fair to me.

Try finding a decent original one any cheaper.  :o

If you're not picky about color, you can usually pick up entire Xenophobe joysticks (black handles with two thumb buttons on them) for significantly less than that.

You're probably not going to be too happy with a joystick hack, regardless of the handle you put on it.
They feel really cheap compared to a real arcade triggerstick.

Even the Discs of Tron/Xenophobe sticks don't feel right on Tron.
The DOT/Xeno sticks are tilted forward, and are true 8-way sticks.
Tron sticks were more upright, and are a modified 4-way stick that BARELY lets you hit the diagonals.

Thanks, I have been watching for the Xenophobe for a while.

Any other recommendations for Tron'able joys?  Are the SlikStik trigger sticks 4/8 way or analog?  Has anybody used these on Tron?

If you get one of these, you will need to buy a number of parts from happ controls to make it work (for the trigger, spring, back pad, etc.

I have the parts list around here somwhere if you are interested. It used to be on 1Ups site, but last I checked, that page wasn't available. I have a copy of it as a PDF, though.

I think this (http://members.aol.com/specialtyplastic/index.htm) is the dude's website.  He's got them available on there also.  That way you won't feel rushed to buy off eBay.

Somewhat on this topic, is anyone making reproduction Tron sideart? I've been toying with the idea of bulding a MAME base Tron cab, but have never found a source for the artwork.

Thanks, looks good. This project is still only in the "maybe" phase, but it's good to know that side art and joystick handles are available in reproduction.

You can find a link to that PDF with parts list here (http://share.localarcade.com/tronsticks.pdf)

It was taken a long time ago off of the google cache from 1Ups site. If he wants I'll take it down, but it's a pretty valuable piece of reference for someone wanting to use these repros.

*Unless you're in the UK, don't sweat this one...he wanted 55 pounds to ship to the U.S. (that's roughly $105!!)
