Title: ? on williams arcade cabinets
Post by: muell67 on December 07, 2004, 04:03:26 pm
I was wondering if there was a website or If someone new what games where originally put into williams cabinets. The model used for the mortal kombat games. like this eBay Link (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=13716&item=6136306711&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW#ebayphotohosting)
I really just want one of these cabinets to mame. So Id like to be able to know what games to look up in ebay because most people dont call them williams cabinets in there description. Im thinking about bidding on this one but Id like to find something closer.

Good choice my friend.  Williams cabs are great (I have two) just make sure your conversion is reversible choose a machine that was already a victim of a conversion, and if the side art is good, work it into the theme of the machine.

Williams cabinets have always been such popular conversion choices that you really just have to look at everything to be sure.

Also a good portion of cabs on auction will either not list what the game originally was, or even list it wrong. There are some very experienced ops out there who actually can't tell from looking what game something used to be. Heck, Bob Roberts himself sent me a Dig Dug bezel when I ordered a Kangaroo one because he thought it was a Kangaroo one that he had. After I let him know about it he was like "Oops, sorry, I haven't played any of these games in 20 years". He got one from another op and sent me the correct one a couple weeks later.

Very nice work on that Joust/MAME cab! Super slick job you did there.

The Williams cabs are definitely a good choice.

The classic Williams games used painted art instead of stickers which can usually be restored by removing any paint over from conversion.

Also, they tend to be a little lighter than some of the other cabs.

Also there are a ton of them.

Good luck in your search,
