Title: Targ/Spectar restoration
Post by: Radical on December 05, 2004, 09:46:39 pm
I'm starting a new project.  I picked this guy up for $10 and figured I would do a MAME conversion if it didn't work.  I was happily surprised when it fired right up.  It's a Targ machine with the Spectar conversion.

It's not in great condition but I can work on that.  All the wood is in good shape.  Some burn-in on the monitor.   I really wish it had the side art.  It looks like it never had side-art on it (?).  The black laminate on the side is the same as what's inside the machine...  If anyone knows of a source for the side-art please let me know because it looks really cool and I'd like to put it on this machine.

One thing I noticed is that it sounds different than Spectar in MAME.  The real version has a lot more bass and sounds a lot better than the MAME version (missing samples or something?).

Here are some pictures of the current condition.

Needs a little TLC for sure.

Wow. Exidy sure lacked imagination when it came to control panel artwork, huh?  :D

:)  Yeah.   When I picked it up, at first I thought someone had redone the control panel.  I went and looked it up and saw that was the original design!  Kinda strange considering the other artwork is nice.
