I'm running Win98 and the first time MAMEWAH is loaded and a rom with a preview movie is selected, I get:
MAMEWAH caused an invalid page fault in module MPG4DMOD.DLL at ...
Any thoughts on this? I'd REALLY love the preview movies to work, but I can take them out if necessary.. The main problem is, this occurs when I've got MAMEWAH as my shell, too.. and I can't figure out a good way to have it 'reload' it if it dies :(
Once I go BACK IN to MAMEWAH (if running explorer as shell), the preview movies work just fine. It's just the initial startup that has the problems..
Really strange.. Is there any more information I can provide?
Thanx.

Do you have DirectX 8 or above installed?
Does the same happen if MAMEWAH is *not* your shell?

Yes for both (running the latest DirectX according to the Windows Update site). For instance, I boot up my computer to Win98. Open MAMEWAH manually.. If I'm NOT on a game that has a preview movie, it's fine. I switch to a game that DOES have a preview movie and WHAMO! The second the preview movie tries to play, I get the IPF. Now, I go BACK into MAMEWAH (and it's at the previous "good" state), select the same game as before, and it plays the preview movie just fine and everything is great...
Very odd...
Thanx!

Dumb question. You aren't running a "lite" version of windows are you? Also make sure windows media player is installed as many of the directshow filters come with it and uninstalling it *could* screw things up.

No, no lite versions.. Have my own opinion on those :)
And yeah, WMP is installed.. And up to date (as far as Windows Update is concerned)...
Thanx for the help (and I'm not even using DK! You rock!)! Like I said, I can drop the preview videos, but they're just so darn cool!
Feels to me more like a Windows problem than a MAMEWAH problem.. Like something isn't registered right until the first time MAMEWAH tries to access it. Then the second time, it's fine...
Thanx.

Don't know why I didn't try that before, but still no dice...
I'm running 1.52 and everything.. I've got it ALL set up how I want it except for this ONE problem! Heh. Always something, eh?
Thanx again for the help. Willing to entertain any/all suggestions...

Sorry I don't know what else to suggest :-\
Just make sure it is a general problem and not just a bad movie file or something (I doubt this is the case). Failing that all I can say is give v1.6 a try (either wait for the final release or try the beta version from the MAMEWAH/ArcadeOS board @ MameWorld).

S'okay.. It's such an oddball problem I was more hoping someone had experienced something similar and had found a workaround than that you could troubleshoot it :) I'll definitely give the beta a go.. I'll just install it in a different directory...
I'm going to try to see if WMP crashes on those files after startup, too... Who knows...
Thanx again for your help!

The latest beta didn't help, either. Very odd..
No big. I'll just remove preview movies for now. This is a mostly temporary setup for my brother, anyways.. Hopefully, we'll get new PCs running XP soon :)
THANX!
