Title: joystick mounting patern
Post by: SPARKY70 on December 03, 2004, 08:32:20 pm
do all joysticks use the same layout for mounting?
in other words, if i am using joystick A, could i upgrade to joystick B without having to modify the control panel?

thanks///sparky

*Most* joysticks use the same pattern.  Some don't.  All the Happ, Industrias Lorenzo, Betson and Wico sticks I've ever seen use the "standard" pattern.

If you buy used, classic, or specialty sticks, you'll get problems.  Older games had a lot of non-standard sticks.  I don't think I've ever seen a 2-way stick that fit the standard pattern.  Pac/Ms. Pac/Tron, etc. Midway sticks are non-standard.  Analog sticks are often different.

edit- removed some wrong info- sometimes I is a dummy-head!

I've found that generally, all US and European sticks (Happ, Wico etc.) use the same mounting pattern. Japanese sticks (Sanwa etc.) use a different pattern with a smaller footprint.

I have seen 2 different mounting patterns. One with a square pattern for the screws, and the second with a rectangular pattern for the screws. I have the square on my panel, and I have been trying to find a mounting plate to mount my t-stick, because it is rectangular :(

The tstick plus is a very different mounting pattern than all the happs sticks.
