I formatted my computer about a week ago and now I can't seem to install SP2... What's going on here?
The machine in question is an eMachine if that is of any importance.

Don't know if this will be of any help, but trying setting to the windows\system directory, not the 32 one....even though this is default.....sometimes those installation discs have issues

Ok, now I'm confused... I just had this great idea to actually look where the file is supposed to be and guess what, it was there!
Stupid M$!

Ok, since the update was infact pointing in the right place and still couldn't find the file I figured I'd move the file and then try pointing the update to that right...
Well I cut and pasted atapi.sys to my desktop and ran it again and it hasn't asked for the file at all ??? I hope it doesn't NEED that file for something? It's just creating backups anyways and I don't plan on going back to SP1 so I don't think there will be any problems... You? Oh well. :-\
Where does Windows store backup files anyways? Maybe I can just dump the old one in there???

Run SFC and install those files. 'Course I dunno what OS it is, so SFC may be used differently, depending on whether Micro$haft wanted to make it easy.

I had the exact same problem and I just skipped the file. My SP2 install works fine.

Hi,
The error has to do with a virtual drive created by daemon tools or alcohol.
If you have any probs just uninstall oyur virtual drive and sp2 then reinstall.
