Hey
I am busy working on the mini arcade cabinet for my young nephews and I thought of a suggestion for Mamewah. There are many games that my nephews shouldnt play, but my brother would like to. Instead of making custom lists which can be apain.. why not list all the games...but when you click ones that are not appropriate for a youngster it would promt for a password? or a certain key combo to play? that would be kinda neat....
just an idea.
thx

You'll find most cabinets don't have a keyboard attached so having to type some kind of a password would not work. I guess it could be done via a combination of keys instead, but it would probably be just as easy to create the custom lists with the Adult titles filtered out.
-
yea i meant a key combo of some sort
-
If you put them in a custom "Adult" list, how do you hide (or put a password) on the "Adult" list and the "Complete" list???
-
My 5 year old has already picked up on my password and can unlock the door to my office. I don't think it would take to long for him to figure out a keypress combination. Specially since he has a tendency to just hit alot of buttons when something doesn't work.
I would also worry about certain screenshots that are pretty suggestive.
Interesting idea but I will stick with seperate lists. I also make the full list non-cycling so that I have to take a few extra steps to get to them,

can you explain what this means? It seems that you woud have to "hide" the change list button and have only one list for "general consumption". what am I missing?

I think he means he goes into the mame-0.ini which is the All Games list and changes the cycle_list to 0. Now the All Games doesn't cycle with a press of a button. To get to it, you now have to go into the Select Games List in Mamewah's options menu.

Exactly what I meant. Thanks

i meant all the games are listed u can hightlight it..if u hit play it says NO...cant...enteer password. then enter key combo to play

I wish you could tag which list gets cycled through, that way you can still cycle lists, all which are OK for kids, but when you want to select a game that's not appropriate for kids, you can select it through the select list menu.
I don't like the idea of a password because it's "advertizing" that he games are there.

Uhh, there's a "cycle_list" option in every single one of your list .ini files that controls whether MAMEWAH shows this list in the "cycle". Is this what you mean?

But presumably most games you don't want your nephews to see are p0rn ones - but this would enable them to see the quite possibly explicit screen/title shot. Plus what Papasch said.
Either way sorry, I don't plan to add anything like this, the custom lists do a good enough job for this IMO.

That's what it does? I thought it would prevent you from switching to a different list when you were viewing this one, not the other way around! Awesome!, my problem is solved, this is all I wanted!
