Title: Visual Pinball Questions
Post by: JoyMonkey on November 30, 2004, 07:01:48 pm
I finally got Visual PinMame/Pinball to run (thanks to EasyEMU's guide (http://www.mameworld.net/easyemu/pinmameguide.htm)) and I've got a few questions for anyone out there:

1. Do I have to unzip the table files? I'd like to keep them nice and tidy, all zipped up. But I don't think Visual Pinball supports zipped files. Right?

2. Is there a ClrMame DAT file for the table files? I know I can use PinMame with ClrMame to check my ROM files, but how do I check my table files?

Cheers!

I think the files need unzipped. Yes, it is messy. I think you can point CLRMame to the executable and create a dat file, like with mame.

Pointing ClrMame to the exe works great for checking ROMs, but it doesn't check Visual Pinball's table files.  :(

Unlike ROM files, there may be several different table files for any given table, and mods of those, and many are undergoing constant updates.  VPLauncher (http://www.scholzroland.de/VPLauncher/) comes with a DAT file, I believe, but I don't know if it's being kept up to date anymore.

Oh, and don't overlook tables that don't use ROMs at all... (Blatant plug for Fight Night: http://webpages.charter.net/celamantia/vp)

Thanks for those links.  Your Fight Night table looks worthy of a download!

I was wondering where all the very old/Pre Rom dumpable type tables were available.  Your links led me here: http://irpinball.ztnet.com/
