When mounting a joystick in the CP, does the orientation matter? I realize I will be mapping the input directions according to which wire I route to the inputs on the IPAC, so other than that I assume the stick doesn't "care" which way it gets mounted.
But, for example, if the base is rectangular rahter than square, I thought it might matter which way it was bolted in.
I'm probably worrying about nothing.

You're worrying about nothing. ;)
Mount it however it fits. Wire it accordingly.

Either direction is fine. I normally mount them so they take up the least room horizontally.
On original games they seemed to mount them wide if it was a single joystick, or tall if it was dual sticks.

Actually it does matter how you mount them...
Mount them stick side up... ;)

*lol* Good one!
I'm mounting my T-Stik Plus sticks vertically...just seemed to be more intuitive, plus it moved it a bit further away from the buttons if you're using Lusid's button/joystick layout.

not having a dig at you, but im always amazed at what mystifies people! its four microswitches actuated by a shaft. you can physically see how it works. nuff said ;)
on the other hand, some of you guys would be amazed at how software issues mystify ME :'(

danny, I'd usually side with you, but I mean, just for a moment....
If you spent six hours building a panel, and used intuition to guess it... and your intuition didn't work.... Wouldn't you go crazy?
A quick painless question. No harm no foul.
Now if he tried serving budweiser instead of miller...

Speaking as an expert who has literally built hundreds of control panels, I mount them wide (horizontally) most of the time. It all depends on the particular cabinet and how much space there is on the control panel when it's attached and in playing position on your cabinet. If there's not much room and you have a two joystick game, then you should mount them vertically.
