Title: Question about the mounting of the IPAC
Post by: Alienreb on May 17, 2002, 03:03:32 pm
Where is everyone mounting their IPAC device at on their cabinet?  I feel like I should mount it to the control panel, but I'm afraid that the constant jarring from the action above might damage the IPAC underneath.

With all due respect, I'm not too fond of your avatar.  :o  but, I'm not a mod/admin so, whatever...

Anyways, I just mounted my ipac inside the cabinet (left hand wall) but close to the control panel. I knew I was going to have multiple control panels, and I wanted to keep the control panel / IPAC harnesses as short as possible. Besides that, the IPAC cord was plenty long enough to reach the PC, so worked out well.

My original picture was an alien that turned his head(animated gif) at you, but the webserver on which the picture was originally hosted was apparantly changed to a porn site(go figure)and a new picture was added in its place.  I didn't see that picture until I began to read your response and the picture came up under my name.  Pretty embarassing, very sorry about that.

As for the IPAC, thanks for the info.  I was kind of leaning towards the same approach you took, so now I will definately do that.

that is really funny about your avatar...sounds like something that would happen to me...  :)

I forgot to mention that I physically mounted the IPAC using the PCB Mounting Feet I got from Happ Controls. I was ordering stuff from them anyway, and just added those to the list...I'm sure you could find something similar for less $ elsewhere, especially since I think they have a minimun order cost.

Also, since I knew I was going to have multiple control panels (so far there is a Street Fighter / Neo Geo one, a Star Wars yoke, and a Tron control panel) I put a 25-pin dsub connector mounted right underneath the control panel. These wires go back to the IPAC, and I can just plug my control panel into the 25pin. So far, I haven't had any problems w/ noise or back connections.

Alienreb,

It is more likely that the owner of the webserver looked at his usage statistics, and decided they didn't want you using their bandwidth for your avatar.  The owner of the webserver only really has two options when some one is stealing bandwidth like that. One is to delete or rename the photo so that the link is broken.  The other is to replace the image with something objectionable in order to get you to change drop the link.

A friend of mine runs a business from his own webserver, he found that some one had linked to one of his photos for their own business.  After a couple of polite email's requesting that the link be removed were ignored, my friend replaced the photo with a series of pictures of roadkill.
