Has anyone used contact paper on the sides of their cabinets? And if so, how where the results? I'm thinking this will be an easier way to go instead of sanding, painting, and priming...

I am not gonna explain "why not" but AVOID contact paper at any cost for the sides of your cabinet.

Cabinets are abused. Whether its moving them or leaning up against them or pounding on the sides after a horrible defeat -- they get scratched, banged, dented.
A scratched cab that is painted requires 5 minutes of sanding and 5 minutes of painting. A scratched cab that had contact paper would require the entire side to be redone.

contact paper will not stick to the side of the cab....
I used contact paper on wood... and the result is not that good.... (at least I was expecting more...)
I heard ... (I didn't try this... but read it somewhere...) if you have metal panel, contact paper will work better since metal surface is much smoother and contact paper will have better grip...
but I would not use contact paper on the side.... I really think it will peel off very soon....
paint or laminate it....

Maybe you could wallpaper it... a nice floral pattern perhaps :P

The sides of my cabinet had light blue formica on them when I got it. I didn't like that so I put some of the famous black marble contact paper on the sides. They turned out just fine, and the contact paper stuck like a charm.
And maybe it's just because I am mature enough to not kick and scream when I lose a game (and so is everyone else who plays on my cab, or they don't play on it ;)), but I have not had any issues with scratches or other damage.

Ah good point... but the formica is a smooth i.e. non porous, surface for the contact paper to adhere to. So I could see contact paper sticking and staying. that's a good point.
Although I do think contact paper might not be tough enough... I'm sure you can do it if you're careful with your cab... and if it tears/marks.. redo it on the cheap. but it'll most likely roll up on the edges if you apply it to plain wood/mdf/etc...

Yeah, I wouldn't have used it if I didn't have formica on the sides. It has stayed put for almost 2 years so far without a sign of wear or rolling up. But like I said, I don't let people who are too rowdy anywhere near it. I put too much work into it to let somebody screw it up.
