Title: What cabinet is this?
Post by: subzero23 on November 28, 2004, 05:33:55 am
I've seen this cabinet style a lot, mostly on Street Fighter cabs SO it leads me to believe it IS a SF cab by origin but I wasn't sure cuz I know a lot are conversions

It's a Dynamo.  Street Fighter cabs are conversions, hence there is no Street Fighter cabinet.

Yeah that's what I understood
(although one klov page said they sold some dedicated cabinets for some game and then later sold kits which irritated some arcade owners yadayadayada)

why was "dynamo" chosen so much for a cab conversion?

Dynamo did produce cabs that were 'dedicated' Street Fighter II cabinets. I picked one up at an auction for a friend, and the Dynamo information labels on the back state as such. Exactly the same style cabinet that is show in the link above. The only real difference I've seen between that particular cabinet and the other 25" Dynamo cabinet I have in my shop is the control panels. The SFII one only has the holes punched in the CP for the 2 joysticks, 6 buttons per player and the 2 start buttons. The cab I have in my shop has a multitude of hole punched in it to accomodate all kinds of control configurations.

Dynamo is chosen for a lot of conversions because the make the best and most durable cabinets in the industry. Also the heaviest.

You can say that again. My old 13" Dynamo Solitaire mini seemed to weigh a lot more than some of my full size cabinets.

*lol* It took 3 of us struggling to get my friends 25" Dynamo cab in the house, and we just about squashed one guy with it. I've moved mine around the shop by myself, but when it comes time to bring it in the house I'm definatly going to recruit some help. I pretty much managed to get my Showcase cab in the house by myself, but I had to pretty much dismantle it to get it into the room it's in now.
