Is there a program that automaticaly picks the best resolution for each rom in mame? Im tired of resizing my arcade monitor to fit each game to my screen. Please respond. Thanks

You can specify resolutions for each game in an ini file.

How do you create that? Can you point me in the right direction?

Copy your mame.ini file, and rename it to whatever game name you want a custom file for. IE mame.ini copied to galaga.ini, then tweak that file.

where do i place the new ini files i create? just in the same folder as the mame configurations?

I'm a MAME newbie, so I have no idea how this works. I have MAME 0.88 installed using Mamewah as the front end, with a Betson Multisync 27" monitor hooked up to an ArcadeVGA video card. MAME seems to automagically pick the right resolution for me. Is this because I'm lucky, or just blissfully ignorant that I'm not really using the correct resolution?
I don't understand how MAME can magically pick the correct low resolutions for me. If it did this, and you were running a normal computer monitor, I assume that trying to run 256x240 would be bad. How does MAME know it's ok to run at that low of a resolution, and how does it know which resolution to use?

check out some information on the AVRES utility here >>>

"Can be used to generate INI files for every installed ROM automatically. It chooses the best ArcadeVGA resolution and will even choose a slightly lower resolution if it is really close."
Not used it yet...hell, I've not even tried my ArcadeVGA card. So can't comment, but it sounds good
