Well, after building a machine and using an older ATI 7500 card, I have another computer that I thought would make a good machine.
I was this close to just buying a AGP ATI radeon, then I thought, "You know what, it's just not possible, but lets see if my (not so old) computer has a AGP slot.".
Guess what. Gateway uses crappy motherboards. So, left with no option other than replace the mobo (pain in the butt just for a AGP slot) or build a new computer, which is out of the question(for a few YEARS), since i'm BROKE. Soooo.
Are their ANY PCI cards with good video out? S-Video?
-
just picked up yesterday a Pine geoforce2 mx400 with s-video out at walmart for 29.00. Hooked up today and am very pleased with the results
-
For real? How blurry does the text look on the TV? Can you compare it to a ATI tv out?
-
And I'm pretty sure you ment Pine gEforce2 mx400
-
newegg.com has a bunch for $40 to $70 dollars, with free or cheap shipping depending on which one you pick.
-
Yeah, I knew about NewEgg.
I guess I'm going to get the
SAPPHIRE ATI RADEON 7000(VE) Video Card, 64MB DDR, DVI/TV-Out, PCI -OEM
or the
SAPPHIRE ATI RADEON 9200SE Video Card, 128MB DDR, 64-bit, TV-Out, PCI -OEM
I really wish I could get away with the much cheaper 7000 card. But will it slow down my computer? I got an older 1.8 P4.
Also, Should I be getting the "OEM" or "Retail Lite" Versions of this product?
And whats the difference between the
Model "100945L" ones, and the ones I picked above? Nothing is different except it says "Model "100945L"" in the discription. If no one knows I'll probably just end up getting one that DOESN'T have that in the title, like the ones I listed above.
Anyone think a 7000 will work?
-
Well, as far as the chipsets go if you're not playing 3dgames than the 7000 will suit you just fine. The 9200 isn't bad in 3dgames given some love, even the SE version.
Neither will affect the speed of your computer outside of 3d applications.
As far as TV out quality, it's hard to say which, if either, would be better. If memory serves me, I remember that my old 7000 (original Radeon) had the same quality TV out as my current 9200SE.
Hope that helps a bit :)

Thank you very much! I guess it really dosen't matter if I get OEM or Retail lite, i'm guessing it's just a box.
I'm not into 3-D games at all. Just card that will work better than onboard video, and have a good tv out. Thanks for your help!

Alright, I'm fixing to pull the trigger. Anyone else have thoughts on which one I should get? sapphire radeon 9200SE PCI, or older 7000VE? I'm only looking for Mame to load things a wee bit faster, and good video out.
I'm getting the more expensive 9200SE under the impression that newer = better (not always the case, but, just to be safe. I guess.)

Alright, I bought it, thanks anyways.
