How long do you think it will be until this thing is playable?
-
The arcade hardware was... complicated. And it's still being sold at retail... soooo... don't hold your breath.
-
Expect that it will never happen.
The trouble is that they suicide SO easy... and trojaning is the only solution that has worked for these types of games... Just looking at the board and thinking trojaning will destroy someones CPU.
Run the dreamcast version. Very close to original..
-
Well, the PS2 Street Fighter: AE. SF:3 is more arcade perfect than it's dreamcast counterpart. Look on any fighting game board, and they will tell you that.
This is mainly because of the dreamcast button lag, which was horrible, there were also a few combos you could pull of in the dreamcast version you couldn't in the arcade. There was also timing diffrences in the dreamcast port.
Why would you want it emulated? Just get Street Fighter:AE and get it, and get to play as any SF2 char VS any SF2 char! Like, "CE Bison VS Hyper Fighting Ken.", AND it comes with the (not so good) Street Fighter 2 Anime movie. All for 30 bucks! 25 used! You get all the extra costume colors to.
I only used emulation to play games I couldn't find. But if it's readily avilable, and the company is still making money off it, and you want the rom, then you are just CHEAP.
(If your ever around Shreveport LA, give me a shout, I can't find ANY good SF3:3s comp around here!)

what were you talking about with suiciding and trojaning?
Anyway I've read on the mame forum it will NEVER happen but I don't think that's true. It'll probably be emulated in the same time frame as Street Fighter 2 was relative to the arcade release. I'm thinking about adapting my arcade machine to be able to hooked up to my PS2 when I want to play specific games like Tekken 5
-
Again, the SF3 boards are very complicated. The arcade game is a combination of a ROM cart, a CD and a unlock chip.
They have built in protection that makes them "self destruct" if you try to copy them.
Plus where many many games run on the SF2 board, the SF3 board is unique to those games and Red Earth.
Still, anything may happen. :P
-
Actually, it's not as complicated as you might think. The main problem is there is an undocumented chip or two. I take that back, the main problem is none of the mame devs particularly think that hte hard work of getting cps3 emulated is worth it and therefore nobody is really working on it. Rest assured, when someone decides it's worth the effort (probably after every other major arcade system has been emulated and the mame devs are bored) it WILL be emulated. With that being said don't hold your breath and also, check the archives once in a while. This question comes up at least once a month on these very boards. Asking a question over and over won't change the answer. :)

Howard... dont' make it out like its easy.
its going to be VERY hard for a long time. Not because it IS hard, but because nobody knows... And nobody is willing to touch their board since it dies by just looking at it hard.
All research has been on broken boards and nobody has got anywhere there. But I expect that someone will need to do a LOT or research on a broken system... Then break a bunch of boards... Then it will be done.... And this will only happen when the boards aren't worth that much so someone wont mind blowing 4 - 10 boards just to see what is needed...
but all in all... CPS3 games kinda suck... I don't see a reason to push cps3 emulation at this point.

Whenever I here about cps3, SF3 is said, but what other games are there? Are there even that many?

Since Street Fighter Alpha was the real sequel to the 2 series I thought it was much better
what I really want to see is Naomi emulation like MvsC2

No street fighter alpha/zero was a prequel.... it takes place prior to street fighter 1. An imho it was capcom's attempt to make a snk style fighter, which was a horrible idea anyway as all snk fighters, with the exception of the samurai showdown series, totally suck. :) Sf3 third strike was much better.

Not exactly. SFA takes place after SF1, but before SF2 (Sagat is scarred from Ryu's Shoryuken and looking for a rematch) but it's kind of a moot point anyways, since it ended up evolving into an alternate timeline by SFA3.
To me SFA3 looks like Capcom's stab at a SNK fighter... complete with psycho announcer!

Um well yeah I know it's the prequel storywise but who pays attention to the story in street fighter? Thus it was the sequel (third) game series for SF imo
Did you forget Super Street Fighter 2 or are you just not counting that one?
-
Well, that was less of a version and more of a update, even though it was it's own board, it didn't really do anything major, since it was still called "Street Fighter 2" (it took capcom forever to count to 3), So if you call that a sequel, then we should call "Hyper" and "CE" sequels, but their not. Just different versions of the old hat.
(I didn't count the non-made-by-capcom-hacks like rainbow 1 and 2, accelorater, Red Wave, etc.)
SF3 was a complete changing. And is one of the best current fighters, and is arcade perfect (just no coin slots!) on the PS2.
It's more of a "thinking mans" fighter(due to parrys, different supers,). People on the Shoryuken boards call the diehards that play this game "theoryfighter".
And yes, the alpha/zero series are correctly called the prequels to SF2, But after SF1. If you want to get storyline canon picky, the first alpha game never happened canon wise, and starts at Alpha/Zero 2.
Theres a storyline at gamefaqs if it interests you.
(god, i play way to many 2-D fighters.)
