Title: Looking for Molex 8 Pin connector
Post by: quarterback on November 20, 2004, 04:09:42 pm
I've got a 4-player jamma cab and each of the 4 players' controls are wired through these 8-pin molex connectors with pressure-lock-tabs on the sides.  Is there a standard connector that's used (that everybody knows about but me) or should I search through the Molex webpages until I find it?
Thanks

They might not be Molex; they might be Amp brand connectors.  Eight connectors?  4x2?

I believe Bob Roberts carries a bunch of molex connectors.  He might be able to answer.

Ahhh.. Indeed, they might not be Molex.

Yeah, they're 4x2.  I'll go grab some pictures since I haven't been able to find anything online.

Here are some pics.

The interesting thing I discovered while taking these pics is that each of the rows-of-four exactly fits a standard PC 4-pin molex power connection.

The 8-pin connector is keyed between the two rows, so if I used the 4-pin I'd have to be careful which way I put each one in, but if I can't find the 8-pin, at least I've got another option

Yeah, I don't think that's a Molex, looks like an Amp.  Let's see...

Just had a browse thru the Mouser online PDF catalog, and couldn't find it, but that doesn't mean anything.

Get out the wallet! Those are definitely AMP brand connectors. They are called the "Commercial Mate-N-Lock" connectors. Mouser has what you need and here are the part numbers:

571-14803450 Dual row positive lock 8 pin housing

571-14802830 Dual row positive lock 8 socket housing

571-606181 Connector pin (male)

571-606171 Connector socket (female)
