Title: AdvanceMAME Slow startup of games
Post by: tcollier on November 18, 2004, 05:06:22 pm
Hi,

To begin with the beginning :

I have a EuroPlay Cabinet with a pc build in using the ultimarc J-Pac.

Specs : P3 - 1ghz & 768Mb SDRAM & 40Gb Maxtor & ATI Rage II
Software : ArcadeOS & AdvanceMAME

Question 1 : When I run a game it takes of 30-40 seconds to load pacman! Is there anyway how to improve this? This i very slow

Question 2 : Games like UMK3 are so slow. Is this normal for my specs? Or do I need to have a more up-to-date vga card?

Thanks for your help ( and excuse my bad english, it is hard for me to ;) )

1) You don't mention which version number of mame you are using.  turn of validity checks if mame 87 or greater
2) Yes

1. I am using AdvanceMame v0,88 and I don't know how to disable the validity check as it is not the same as mame
2. Is this a yes on the VGA Card of a Yes on the Specs?

Thanks for your reply

Hi,

1. edit advmame.rc
2. vga card not relevant to mame speed. He means your pc is too slow.

But you might do better with an older version of mame. I'm experimenting with rolling back to advmame 0.70. Seems OK so far.

Cheers
