I am running dmame.62 with arcadeos and have got the menu rotation and games rotation down on a vertical only cab (thanks again joymonkey) but want to automatically change all the dipswitches in every game from upright to cocktail--is there a cfg setting that will do this?

You need the cocktail patch for mame. It will change the source code for all drivers to default to the cocktail setting. Then you need to re-compile mame. I actually wrote a cocktail patch no that long ago, let me see if I can dig up a link for you.

but want to automatically change all the dipswitches in every game from upright to cocktail.
Some games don't have cocktail dipswitches, so you can't have EVERY GAME.
Some games don't even have DIPSWITCHES, you must go to Service MODE and chaneg it to iether A or B or C.
The only way is by pushing a button to flip the monitor screen when its the other players turn (ADvmame).

I suppose I should have mentioned that I am only running vertical games and I know that not all games are supported--pacmanfan's answer hit the nail on the head--change the default cabinet from upright to cocktail where possible--I'm wary of recompiling mame but I have lots of people to help me with it right?

it's acctully not all that hard , the only problem i ran into was trying to compile dos ver of mame on an xp system .. thing would compile the mame32 ver with no problems and even took a few custom gcc commands i snuck into it .. but for dos ( and thats whats needed for the FE ) it just puked , so keep this in mind when you go to compile , some os's dont care . others do ...
anyway , if you go step by step via the instructions on the mame page you should have no problems.

I read the how-to on mame.net and I agree the recompiling process doesn't seem to be too bad--but what its sketchy on is how to change aspects of the mame program (particularly the one i'm interested in) which commands or libraries would control default dip switch settings?
