Anybody ever finish a nice vector of a Galaga Bezel?
-
Ehm , well. I recovered an older version from my harddisk crash, but I didn't get much further after that.
-
I'm working on a couple of bartop projects the first of which is a scaled down galaga/mspac cab design.
Was hoping to find art to use to make a galaga bezel....is there a high res pic that is full size that when scaled down in size might work?
-
I have a lot of pictures that need to be stitched together to make up the bezel. I don't think you'll get them stitched together neatly enough to create an image. I'm actually missing coverage of some areas too, but I can fill those in based on other bits.
I used a low res image of the bezel on my PocketGalaga cab, but that one has like a 4 inch bezel :P
BTW if you mean you are creating a MsPac/Galaga reunion cab then the bezel for that is completely different from the Galaga bezel.
-
Not combo cab for this one, just modeled after Galaga (my all time favorite) and to be setup for predominantly vertical classics.
I found one bezel artwork piece but I think that is designed for just screen display filler when playing vertical on horiizontal screen.....Fireworks indicates its even less than 72 pixels per inch.
I'm no graphics person but when I have had things printed I normally use a minimum of 300.
....but I'm not exactly certain how to get it sized to what I need and then test print.....still tinkering.

Sometimes these resolutions are wrong. You should take the overall size of the print you need (say for instance 22") and divide the number of pixels by that size. So, for instance a 1500x1500 image will have a 72 pixels per inch resolution when printed at 22", but 144 pixels per inch when printed at 11".

Makes sense....
Here's a link to the starting image I have been working with:
http://www.satio.com/galagamw.png
I haven't concluded what the exact bezel area dimensions will be for the bartop cab but it will be approximately 15" x 15".
What I was hoping to do was use this image and size it based on the inside black box area so it fits the viewable monitor area just right with the hope that the resulting overall size will be proportionate to the area I need to fill, understanding I may need some trim adjustments here and there.
I'm not that literate when it comes to manipulating graphic images so at this point I have just used brute force tirial and error with resize, print, measure.
Any suggestions would be great or if I could provide the inside black box width that I am after and someone could resize the total image based on that, that would help.
-
This image is indeed quite low-res (and somewhat grainy). It's about 1000x1000 so if you print that at 15"x15" you get roughly 60 pixels per inch. That won't look so nice.
-
You're confirming what I was concluding based on my limited graphical experience....
I may just have to forego having an actual "galaga bezel" for now, come up with something generic, then come back later when there is better artwork available.
This particular bartop project is a gift so I doubt the recipient will care if the bezel is not authentic.
I figured I would get my design and parts figured out on this one and then build one for myself later. :D
Guess I will move on to the control panel overlay.....that as a piece of Vector art that hopefully I can figure out how to resize and adjust to what I need.
And I figure the sideart will be a piece of cake.

Here's an old thread with some pics to help out -

BTW here is my entry on the WIP thread (http://www.arcadecontrols.org/yabbse/index.php?board=13;action=display;threadid=12772;start=msg133305#msg133305)
And a pic:

Is this WIP available for download somewhere?
I think it would be fine if I could get it sized right and then just cut/paste some stars and bugs to the unfinished areas.
-
I'd say this is not really usable yet. Most of the blue stuff is still temporary fill-in that I need to cut out to be the true nebulae.
-
Patrickl,
You are doing a wondeful job. Keep it up.
A galaga bezel is one of the most sought after collectible bezels there is.
-
Thanks, I hope I won't lose the file it again because all those details are driving me mad :P
-
Instead of starting a new thread I decided to revive this one. Any luck vectorizing the Galaga bezel? Looks like a good chunk was done almost a year ago, so did it ever get finished?
This is the only one I can find in the art arcade library
http://www.localarcade.com/arcade_art/details.php?image_id=857
but its just a scan for the bezel, and I can't figure out how to download the full size of it anyways. Any help would be appreciated.
-
I think it'd be really cool if we fixed this stuff up. Why not break it down and have everyone work on a part? there are a bunch of guys good at vectorizing and it'd be a neat team effort.
who's in?
Me.
-
create a user and log in to download the full size file.
-
I guess I better finish up what I have and post so someone else (more in a hurry than me) can complete it.
BTW a problem with the bitmap that was uploaded is that it is cleaned too much. The stars are much slimmer than they appeared in the pictures I got from General Zod and many starts are even competely gone. Maybe I'm a perfectionist, but most work goes into putting the pictures and the bitmap together to get the most detail out of the vectorizing.
-
this image doesn't look too complidated. The bugs don't anyway. I'd like to see what you have done and I'd be happy to do a bug or 2. or 3 or 4. :)
that blue stuff doesn't look fun at all. and all those stars...ugh... ;)
I'd like to play though. Anyone else in?

i made scans of the one i recently sold on ebay if any one wants to vector it
pm me and i'll email you the files
-
I hope whoever posts the finished bezel has some serious bandwith do give up! :)
*Anxiously awaiting your vector,
-=XD=-
-
Yeah, it's growing kinda big. It's pretty detailed.
-
i have a highres scan of an old arcadeshop cardboard repro available...i'm very interested in having this finished if i can motivate anyone :)

Hey there guys, if someone is still looking for the Galaga Bezel, I think that is has just recently been finished by Mgkastra over here
http://forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=215429 (http://forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=215429)
Maybe someone could hit him up for a copy of the .ai files
Hope this helps someone.

A little confused as to why he has posted the worklog for the bezel, is he just showing what he can do, or is he offering it for sale or maybe offering it free to the community.. not really sure
