Title: eBay sellers
Post by: Craig on November 16, 2004, 04:09:35 am
What is it with some eBay sellers? I have like emailed 10 or so people and only 2 ever replied. These idiots don't bother and it is really annoying when you want to buy their product but they won't give you a reply. They won't get my business unless they reply. My emails are written friendly so I can't figure it out.  ???

Some larger sellers don't answer pre sale emails on purpose, because people who ask questions are "problem customers".

The only thing I asked was how much is the postage to my place etc.. and get no answer.

Of course not, if he answers then he will have to either forgoe sticking an extra $10 on there in handling, or will lose your bid.

I once bought a PAPERback RPG book from a lady on ebay who didn't have the shipping listed, but wanted $12 after the sale. It turns out that is what it cost her to drop it off at mailboxes etc and have them package it and UPS it to me.

I was like. Its a book, it can ship for $1 at the post office.

She said she didn't use the post office for shipping.

This went back and forth for a while, and finally she gave in and sent it media mail for like $2 or something, but only after I pointed out that I could simply BUY the book at my local bookstore for much less than her combined price, and it made no sense to use a shipping method that cost 10 times as much and would result in my never receiving the product. (If you are single and employed you pretty much can't receive anything from UPS that requires a signature).

So there is too many sellers ripping people off with their HUGE handling fees.

I had something like that happen too. I bought a board for cheap and then the seller wanted $25 for shipping.

I guess he was upset that he didn't get a really good price and held that out as a way to recoup his loss.

I don't bid on items without some type of shipping cost and description.   I ship everything via the post office and I've never had any problems. (save one, to overseas).

If they don't take the time to answer questions, then I wouldn't bid on it either.  They are more likely NOT to give you good service if they can't take a minute to answer questions.

But, I can recall selling only one item to someone that asked a question myself.

If they don't list (reasonable) S/H fees in the description, I just skip the auction.  They are allowed to add some handling amount in but nothing too outlandish.  I've seen sellers trying to add $15 to ship an Imperial trackball.

I'll bid anyway, and if they try anything outlandish I will tell them exactly where they can stick their high shipping price.

I generally ask questions first though. One seller lost hundreds on the sale of a car because he didn't answer my question. I was quite ready to buy, and at several hundred more than the closing bid.

If they don't have a shipping price listed I don't bid....

another thing that gets on my nerves with some sellers is that after you win the auction and pay for the item they don't bother giving you back a feedback.... >:(
