Title: Good, Cheap Flourescent light fixture??
Post by: the3eyedblindman on November 14, 2004, 02:29:12 pm
Where can I find a good, cheap flourescent light fixture? The reason I am asking is I bought one from menards, a 24 inch, and when i plugged it in only half of it lit up, and it was yellow light, not white, when the box stated it was white. I just want to know where I can find a good white lighted one, 20 to 24 inches, for the cheapest price from your findings, thanks.

As stated, Home Depot. Wal-Mart has one.  Why don't you take the one you have back?  It sounds defective.

Got any mate's that are in building trade? I got mine from a mate who's are carbet layer, and he picked it up from a building site that was part of a bank referb. Bulb, ignightor and chassis work fine. It was wired straight into the mains. It was pulled out, the cable cut, and then tossed. I just wired a new cable (with 3 pin plug) into and hey presto! A (almost) free marquee light. Just the cost of the new cable, plug & switch.

The local dump here has a place called "Aussie Junk" that have the scavanging rights tho everything thats tossed ito it.They sell stuff dirt cheap (one mans trash is another mans treasure). See if you have something like this in your area.   ;)

Ok, what's the best 'wattage/voltage' to go for and are there problems with heat using fluorescent lights?  If so will a diffuser cover cut down on this?

thanks

voltage will depend on where you live but you'd proboobly want a 40w bulb and I would deffinetly reccomend using a diffuser. the diffuser will even the light across the whole marquee and make it look nicer.

Had the fluorescent strip light arrive today, but it has a 'warmwhite' tube in it as opposed to 'coolwhite'.  Damn, will this make MUCH difference?
