I need some help this is my first Video Game and I just got it 1 month ago. I want to try and convert it to Golden Tee one of the newer versions 03, 04, or 05. The Skins game if you do not know uses the stick with springs instead of the trackball. How hard is it to convert this into a a Golden Tee. and WHAT EXACTLY will I need to do this. Is it difficult?
Thanks in advance

Well, you would be hard pressed to pick a worse cabinet.
Truthfully it is cheaper to BUY an 03, 04, or '05 Golden Tee then it is to convert something too it. That is the NEW hardware platform and it costs a fortune (thousands).
If you want to use an older model (Classic or earlier), then it isn't too expensive. For that you will need PCB, 3" trackball, trackball plate, grass overlay, golden tee marquee, and trackball connector harness. Think $200-$400. Depending on details, like if you buy the specific trackball overlay, or if you buy an instruction card, and what year of board you use.
I am almost in the middle of my System One (which died on me) cabinet to Golden Tee '99 conversion.
Post a picture of your cabinet first, as some cabinets are totally unsuitable to Golden Tee.

Oh, and Golden Tee 1997 through "Classic" run on the same boardset and have the same grapics, they just have different courses. So a 2000 isn't "better: than a 97, it just has different courses.
Also, there are 3 tier boards and single tier boards. You will want the "single tier" board if you do a 1997-Classic machine.
If you REALLY want a current one, then call your local distributor and get ready to spend $2000 to $4000.

there is a differance in the graphic quality from 96-classic. 99,2k,and classic look "cleaner" than 96,97,98. i have all 6 boards here in my machine and you can tell if 97 is playing instead of 99. also i have had at least 2 of each years and the picture quality seem to be consistant 99,2k,and classic just look a little better. mind you it is not a huge difference but it is noticable.
and yes i would not try to convert that cabinet into 2002-2005. buying one is cheaper. converting 96-classic is cost efffective but not the newer stuff.

Is that the one (Midway Skins) with the keypad on the left side? How much did you pick that up for?

No, skins is an OLD Golf game, think like 1990 JAMMA. It is the one that has the overlay with all the dollar bills on it.

Whee, I just finished my System I to Golden Tee '99 conversion. I got a terrible 3 over par on my first game (almost all of which came from a single hole that I chunked it into the water so many times that I didn't get to finish the hole).

Yes it is the one with the keypad Midway Skins 2000. I picked it up for 700

That's what I was thinking it was....I've seen the same one at the auction around me - ALWAYS sells for between 900-1300.
I can't believe there's that many of those in the area, so I'm assuming it's the same one being resold again and again.
IIRC, it's got a metal control panel, which would mean you'd have to replace the whole CP to turn it into a golden tee....doesn't it also have a joy for direction or something?
Removing those controls already existing there would probably make such large openings as to be unuseable.

Oh, if it is a NEW game like that then sell it off and buy a Golden Tee.
Also, isn't Skins Game 2000 medium res or VGA (don't bother checking klov, it says standard res, but klov can be way wrong sometimes).

How hard would it be and do you know anyone selling the things I need to make it a Golden Tee Classic or 2K or 2K1.
Thanks
