Is the ATI R9200 video card the same as a
ArcadeVGA card ??
-
The arcadeVGA is a Radeon 9200, but the Radeon 9200 is not an arcadeVGA :)
-
Don't quote me but I believe the ArcadeVGA card uses the ATI Raedon 7000 series chipset, unless the have update the card.

OK, thanks for that information. Personally I don't use the product but may try one on my next cabinet.
Thanks again,

I am asking because i work with Computers and can get hardware at cost price.
So will the Radeon 9200 work on a Arcade Monitor
-
Nope, the ArcadeVGA has a custom written bios that allows it to output very low resoultions, a standard 9200 can't output below 640x480. Also the AVGA outputs a 15kHz refresh rate required by Standard res arcade monitors
-
YOu can use a standard ATI card and Advcab for DOS on an arcade monitor. Then use Advmame as a front end. Works just fine. If you want to run Windows, get Power strip and program in the correct resolution to output on your arcade monitor. It just takes a bit more work.
I have a Radeon 7000 in one of my MAME cabs right now. I have built 4 of them with standard res monitors and have never touched an AVGA card.

It isn't JUST the bios, I have one of the newest ones, it has hardware differences too, unless ATI now ships cards with partially removed svideo ports on the back of them.
