OK, this is it.

Alright! I seriously considered ordering the nickels this time around but think I'll go brass again to mix in with my BYOAC ones. As soon as the 15th rolls around I'm gonna definitely place my order for 500 of these.
One quick question: How tough is the finish on the nickel tokens? What I mean is how likely is it to wear, scratch, etc. compared to the brass? Thanks.

I have had one on a keychain for 4-5 months and it hasn't worn or scratched through at all. It sure seems durable.
-
You misspelled 'brass' on your site.

Sounds great. Now to just decide which ones.
-

What, it's not spelled Breass? :)
Fixed, thanks..
-
out of curiosity will they be the exact same size as the BYOAC ones?
-
Yes.
-
I pm'd with no response (atleast I think I did, either way... no biggie... I know your busy)
but is there a difference (for you) weather we use paypal or credit card?

Sorry, I got a bunch of PMs at the same time and must have missed yours.
I am using my merchant account for everything so you can pay however you like. The hassle of maintaining two payment methods on the last batch wan't worth it.
Thanks for asking though.

I just noticed that the shipping charges listed for 500 token lots is $18, compared to
$4 for 200 token lots. Is this a mistake, or just the result of strange shipping charges
from your shipper?

The big difference is that for 100 and 200 lots I can use USPS Flat Rate Priority Mail envelopes. I can't for larger orders, thus they are more expensive.
-
Just as your website says, I need those tokens.....
I NEED those tokens....
I'll give you money...
then I'll move along, move along....
those aren't the droids I'm looking for.....

Couldn't you just ship in two envelopes?
-
even three envelopes would be cheaper....
the post office is funny sometimes though.....
-
Couldn't you just ship in two envelopes?
Theoretically, yes. But the PayPal website doesn't let me split up transactions between multiple shipping labels. If I do it manually I lose the link between the order and the USPS shipping label, and documenting the shipping of this many orders becomes a complicated paper exercise. A 500 lot would probably require three envelopes, three times the packing tape, and three times the labor to ship and track.
When I use the Paypal website to generate a the label, every order has a corresponding 'track it' button. It is very neat and tidy, and less prone to error.
I know the 500 lot discount in the end doesn't add up to much of a difference net/net. I even make less margin on those orders. I just wanted to make it easier to order larger volumes.
-
as soon as your ready to take money orders I'm in ;D
using money orders is the only way for me to hide my transactions from the wife ;)
-
OK, I finally got the international and Check/Money order instructions onto the site. Thanks for your patience.
-
Just a heads up: the US Orders - Click Here, International Orders - Click here links at the bottom of this page (http://www.arcadetokens.com/html/mame_tokens.html) aren't tagged as hyperlinks. The links on the side work, though.
-
Bummer- Not sure how that happened.... I will check it when I get home. I distinctly remember setting the links ???
-
OK, fixed, Thanks.
-
I was about to place an order for 400 nickel tokens and noticed something weird. It seems that no matter the quantity the shipping stays the same (2 sets of 200 was $4.00; 20 sets was $4.00). Would it be easier if I just placed two seperate orders or should I wait for a fix?
-
That is the correct pricing - I use flat-rate envelopes for the smaller (1-200) orders.
Thanks for checking though.
-

Okay, just to verify though. Hypothetically, if I order 20,000 tokens (100 sets of 200 tokens) my total is only $3,604.00 ($3,600 + $4.00 S/H). That seems like a big hit to take on shipping. I just don't want you to get ripped off.
-
OK, I see your point, there is room for people to 'game the system.' I will put some 'ordering rules' up there.
As for ordering 400, I would probably ship two envelopes.
Thanks
Dave
-
Hope you still have these in January. I'm trying not to buy any game stuff until after the holidays in order to somewhat offset the wife's usual xmas shopping expenses.
-S
-
Have the tokens come from the manufacturer yet? Last I heard they were expected around 12/1.
-
Yes, I got a sample on Friday (a week late) which I approved yesterday. The tokens look awesome. I am going to try to post a picture tonight. (If you recall it is a real pain in the butt to get a decent picture of tokens because of how shiny they are.
-
Sorry gang, looks like I left the sample in my NYC office, so I will have to post the pic tomorrow. (They stamped one token instead of sending the lead for some reason this time.)
As a teaser, here is a really crappy picture I took in a hotel room yesterday while away from my real camera.
-
FOCUS! ;)
-
So, I am a bonehead.
-
LOL! Looks like it is time to upgrade to a newer model? I love my Canon 20D. ;D
-
Shouldn't the topic be changed from "early" to "mid" December delivery? ;D
Doesn't matter, I'm sure they will be as amazing as the BYOAC tokens.
Given the time of year, maybe you should try to time deliveries so they arrive on the 24th so we all have at least one nice Christmas present to open! (or other appropriate date depending on your specific beliefs)
-
Wow! Must have these! Now all I need to do is actually start building my cab
Just a couple quick questions.
(1) How many of these coins do people actually use? How much should I expect to buy for moderate use?
(2) How durable are the brass coins? I like the authenticity of the brass but aren't too sure how they'll hold out against the nickel.
Thx and keep up the good work! =D
-
I would say that (this is a personal opinion) 200 is what I would consider the minimum unless you almost never play your cab,
-
That's the only thing I don't like about the holidays. There's never enough money to go around... 85USD is a LOT of money!! :o
I guess since I only have about $25 left on the debit, I'll probably go 100 and up it later (hopefully you won't run out before the end of the year).
Really, I never played in an arcade with quarters, always tokens, so brass it is!
If you get enough demand for this, would you keep this going or is it a "limited time" thing?
Cheers!
Edit: Ack! Short by less than 2 dollars! :'(
-
I will definitely be selling the brass for at least a year unless the orders stop coming completely. (I can order smaller lots if I want.) Nikcel is a different story, I would need to see enough demand to justify ordering another 10K, which is the minimum.
-
Update, the Brass tokens were shipped to me yesterday, and the Nickel should be shipped to me on Friday.
We're getting there!
-
Update, the Brass tokens were shipped to me yesterday...
*stamps feet impatiently*
PICTURES!!!!
Where's Drew when you need him?
-
No, I meant they were shipped yesterday, and are still in transit to me.
I can't wait to get these out to you folks, they rock.
-
OK, gang, here are the photos.
-
Has Focus!! ;)
They sure look nice!! I sure will be glad when mine arrive. ;D
-
looking good.....I can't wait.....
-
Yay! Even though I can't afford them yet...
Yay! ;)
-
Do you have an ETA for the nickel ones? The brass ones look great, I may need to grab some of those too ;)
-
Will these work in UK coin mechs or would I need to buy a US coin mech for these to work?
Cheers!
-

you'll need mechs that accept .984 size tokens.....there maybe a way to hack yours just do a search and you should find it.......
-
Hey, are silver and brass shipping, or just brass?
-
Got my brass today. I can't stress enough how unbelievable these look. And how unbelievably difficult it is to get a decent picture of them. Here is a close up showing detail and a smaller image better showing what they look like at actual size. Unfortunately no matter how I light these the metal comes out looking textured which is definitely NOT the case in reality. I order to get the detail I've had to light these very flatly.... so while these images do show detail keep in mind that the actual tokens are very shiny with a mirror like brass finish that I am unable to get in the photos. Basically the brass version of highly polished chrome. The metal looks perfectly smooth and all the cuts are absolutely razor sharp. The detail and sharpness just can't be reproduced in a photo... at least not by me. These FAR exceed my expectations. Better looking than the BYOAC versions IMHO.
-
Heres another. Shows the INCREDIBLE detail the mint can resolve. Unfortunately the better the detail in the stills the more misleading "scanning electron microscope mystery iron-like metal texture" is introduced. Just imagine the detail you see here but razor sharp on a perfectly smooth shiny coin.
-
I can't tell from these pics... did the raised rim render on the back?
-
Yes. Its a bit more subtle than some of the other lines but its definitely there.
-
And here's one for the coffee table art book.
-
Hey, are silver and brass shipping, or just brass?
Brass and Nickel are now both shipping. I packed approximately the first third of the orders tonight (starting first-in), and will do my best to get all orders shipped this week. No promises because with the holidays it is reeeeeeally hard, but I will try. I know everyone is anxious and this took longer than any of us expected.
And Pixel, thanks for the incredible photos. Mind if I steal a few of them for the website?

Nickel are shipping?!?!?! O man, I can't wait to get them!!!!
/me bounces with anticipation.
I'll be sure to take some pics of the Nickel when I get them and post them up too. It'll give me a reason to take out my fancy-schmancy digital camera haha.
-
Just curious if you're processing orders over the holiday :) Just ordered mine. Not in a big hurry, but am REALLY anxious :)
THANX!
-
All orders received before yesterday will be shipped by tomorrow AM (the first half was shipped this morning.)
Going forward all orders should ship within 1-2 business days of receipt (except the first week in Feb, when I will be on vacation.)

My nickel tokens just came in and look fantastic! Some pics:

Thanks a ton Santoro and all those who worked on getting these out. Now to modify my coin mechs and finish my cocktail cab...
-
damn you Troz, ya beat me to the pics :P
I got my nicel tokens today too. They look AMAZING. thanks a lot Santoro, great work again.
-
(http://www.twistedrails.com/mamecab/token1.jpg)
You need to borrow this pic for your site, Santoro... :)
-
Yup, I agree that is by far the best token pic yet. Mind if I 'borrow' it? :police:
-
Feel free to use it :)
-
I just got mine last night and I am really pleased with the way these came out. The engraver really pulled out the stops on this one! There's some really subtle texturing on the MAME machine giving it a very 3-D appearance. The texture is far finer than the stipple on the last set. The monitor does not have that texture, so it's smooth as glass. Pixel, was that texturing in your original art files?
--Chris
-
I know I'm preaching to the choir, but... I received my tokens yesterday, and they are fantastic! They are very shiny and show a great deal of detail.
-
Is there anyway you can split up the payment?
I got myself a debit card just for this but I accidentally got it for 10 dollars less than I wanted so now I'm stuck with one for 30USD and my old one that has ~22USD on it.
Is it possible for me to finish off the one and pay whatever's left on the balance off the other card?
-
Honestly I don't know how to make that happen. If you can somehow arrange two paypal payments, one from each card or something like that, I wouldn't mind. Maybe your bank could help.
-
yessss I got mine today and they are awesome havn't decided if I like the brass more than the nickel or the nickel more the the brass...
great job :D
-
Nicely done, Troz. THAT'S the way these pics should look.
Chris - I didn't specify any texture in the file at all. The cabinet is comprised of a total of 5 different levels. I imagine the subtle texturing is just an artifact of the planing/engraving process. It sure does add to the cab's appeal though. I was really surprised by how intricate and sharp the mint was able to keep the detail on such a small scale. The outline around the Mame logo is just under 3/1,000ths of an inch (27/10,000's :o !)
-
I've received mine yesterday ... they are simply amazing ... nice piece of work ...
-
Has anyone tried to purchase tokens and had trouble?
I made the PayPal payment, and haven't received any confirmation of my order, nor any responses to direct emails requesting order status or information.
I sure hope paypal has good dispute resolution, because I am starting to have bad feelings about this.
-
Don't worry. Santoro would absolutely NEVER stiff you on this. I've done work with him before and can tell you he is absolutely ethical. He's got to be insanely busy right now. Believe me, you'll get the tokens and you're gonna love them. Fire off another email, he'll get back to you soon I'm sure. He's a very nice and very concientious guy.
Good (and shiny) things come to those who wait.
:)
-
His website says that he's on vacation right now. He's back on Feb. 7th, I'm sure he'll get in touch with you as soon as he returns.
-
Pixelhugger and JoyMonkey -
I see the problem - My order and initial email were done the day before that vacation notice went up and before the vacation dates.
I guess he was busy packing and getting ready.
Thanks for the assurances, I'll look forward to Feb 7. I have token mechs and nothing to put thru them!!!!
Maybe I'll suggest he put an autoreply on his business email account! ;D
I'll also email him and let him know you guys spoke so highly of him.
Thanks again. I can relax now.
-
I have token mechs and nothing to put thru them!!!!
Well then you're better off than I.
I've got two series' of tokens, a coin door, token mechs and NO CAB to put them into! ::)
-
Who said I had a CAB?! ;)
I have lots of buttons, joysticks, a monitor, an IPac4, Optipac, spinner and a MAME box built.
No CAB.
But I am heading to Home Depot tonite for supplies ;D
-
Anyone interested in sending me *1* token to see if I can get it to work in my Happs mech? I don't want to shell out $20 bucks for 100 tokens only to find I can't get them to work. Any takers?
-
I thought these were standard .984" tokens
I'm sure someone here can vouch that they work in a happs mech, no?
-

They work in a Happs .984 mech... they won't work in a Happ's quarter mech without modification.
-

Right - that's why I want *1* token to see if I can get it to work in my Happs quarter mech. Just 1, itty, bitty, little, shiny token.... 8)

Now what would REALLY rock is finding someone who makes custom tokens.
eg. I send a heads and tails image and it gets minted. That would rock.
-
That's how these got made. We had them done at http://www.tokensdirect.com. The minimum order is for 5000 tokens, plus there's a $195 die charge per side.
--Chris
-
:o
so much for that idea!!!!
-
:o
so much for that idea!!!!
Hoffman Mint (http://www.hoffmanmint.com/) will do a minimum order of 1000 (at a higher price, of course) with the same $195 per side die charge. I think Surgeville got his tokens done at Hoffman...
If you look at tokens from various arcades, you can often tell where they are made. If there's a tiny HH or HM on the token somewhere, it came from Hoffman. If there's a tiny interlocking OC or TD, they came from Tokens Direct or its parent company, Osborne Coinage. RWM stands for the Roger Williams Mint. Those are the "big three" that I know of, but there may be more.

-
Hmmm...Chuck E. Cheese token? Who's that? Not sure I know what you're talking about...awww damn...who put that picture in here!
I might have some of those in the change jar. I'll take a look. Thanks for the tip!
-
thanks to mp2526 http://www.miavio.com/happilmech.htm
This page shows how to modify a standard Happs .25 mech to be converted for CEC tokens (seem to be damn close to .984), pretty easily I might add.
Going to get some tokens now!

Yeah, you nailed it, the packing for my cruise turned out to be a brawl at my house and we left before I was able to answer the note.
And I was going to set up an autoreply but ran out of time.
-
Thanks for the reply!
Sorry I got so freaked out. Guess depsite being a 'net veteran, I still get nervous about $$ transactions thru paypal and stuff like that.
Hope you had a great cruise. Sounds like fun, but I'm a snowboard kinda guy myself.
I started on the new home for my tokens today. My garage is 1/2" deep in MDF dust. Hooray!
-
A good weekend of work so far. Now I gotta go watch the Superbowl.
So far, so good. Not too many goofs ;)
-
Can't wait till I get my tokens ive ordered 100 of each. :D
-
:o Wow I cant believe the quality of the Mame tokens (and the speed of international post). They were posted to me on monday and have arrived here in Australia today (friday).
-
Supplies of Brass are running low and I doubt I will be ordering more. I have more Nickel, but not a lot.
In case you were on the fence.
-
Are you still planning to do a new run of the BYOAC tokens this summer? I like that design better...
-
Definately maybe.
-
Definately maybe. :-\
The BYOAC tokens we would make this year will be a different design from last year - created by the group with a voting process, same as we did last year.
Too bad. I think the "design by committee" pretty much nailed it the first time. Last year's BYOAC tokens had that iconic look, with simple, clean graphics. I like the shapes, rather than their outlines, being defined in relief. I really haven't seen a token design I'd rather have with my cabinet. I wish I hadn't missed out on them.
The current MAME tokens strike me as too "noisy", especially the cabinet side. The theme doesn't really work for me either... The BYOAC tokens were more old-days gamey, with the happy Atari guy (not the Men's room guy, thank you!) and a big old cabinet. The URL points people here, where they can learn to build a cabinet. The MAME ones, to me, remind people that there's a modern PC inside, running a piece of software they may not have heard of. The URL points them at that one emulator. I don't know. I have a hard time accepting them.
How much would it cost to do another run with the old design? Probably too rich for my blood. But I figure at least the dies are already made so it might be worth asking.
-
My problem is that I think demand might be low for more tokens.
-

How many are you looking for? I ended up with 600 of the BYOAC tokens and only 100 MAME tokens... maybe we could work out something where you order me some MAME tokens and I'll send you an equivalent amount of BYOAC tokens? You end up with the tokens you want, I get a better token balance, and Santoro still gets paid....
That sounds like a great deal to me. Brass sounds perfect. 600 sounds like a great amount. I might want more in the future but from what I've read here I won't want less. I'll PM you, we can work out details.
-
Put a few sets on eBay with a Buy It Now equal to what's on the Web, or up for bid a few dollars cheaper than the website.
-
Do you take requests? "No Cash Value" is right.
-
Is there going to be another run with the TM on it? ;)
-
I have some choice words preselected in case I hear from this clown.
In the spirit of keeping it PG-13 here, I won't be repeating them here!
-
i recently recived my Nickel Mame tokens and they look excelent however they were 4 short of 200.
any chance you could send me the missing 4 please? i know its a bit nit picky but the universe is unbalanced till i have the exact amount of nickel mame tokens as my brass byoac tokens!
-
Will do, please drop me a PM with your real name. Sorry for the problem.
-
Ok, it took a while, but I now have small quantities available.
-
Dave,
I just placed an order for 100 tokens (50 brass, 50 nickel). Can't wait to get them! These will be my first tokens (not counting Chuck E. Cheese 7 such).
Good luck selling the rest - I'm sure you'll sell out in time. Maybe you could organize some 'competitions' or lotteries on BYOAC where the tokens you have left could be given as prizes. This way you could deduct your expense to Uncle Sam.
The tokens look great in pics - I can't wait to drop 'em into my coin slots!
Thanks,
Tom
-
OK, I sold my last large lot of brass tokens, from now on the brass MAME tokens will only be available in the 5 & 10 sampler packs, and even then for a limitied time as I won't be ordering more.
We did get in a second lot of Nickel so we will have those in stock for a while longer.
If you want brass MAME tokens this is your last chance to get them!!!!!!
Thanks all for your orders.
Dave
-
Santoro,
I can understand you not wanting to ship the small shipments overseas.. but, how about Canada? :)
thanks!
d.
-
Also.. would these work in Coin Mechs set to accept Canadian .25's? Or would I need U.S. .25 coin doors?
thanks
-

Of course! That makes sense! Thanks.

-
i sent payment for a sampeler.... never got a confirm e-mail or anything were thye sent?
-
Yes sir, it was mailed on 3/23 via US mail. Look for it today or tomorrow.
If we do tokens again I will definitely set up an auto-responder to avoid these worries.
Thanks
Dave
-
oh ok thanks ^_^ didnt get em today i hope to see em tomorow
