Post by: datac0re on November 11, 2004, 09:24:00 pm
Hi guys,

Just wanted to give everyone a heads up that I've started a blog to show my progress on my very first MAME cabinet! 8)  It's located here:

http://newtzie-mame.blogspot.com (http://newtzie-mame.blogspot.com)

I've submitted the site as a project to BYOAC but it hasn't been approved just yet. But regardless, go take a look!

That's a nice breakaway from the regular black cab! Looks good,   what made you go with the MK layout? Or maybe it is an MK cab, I didn't read much so forgive me for my ignorance :)

Yep the cab in its previous life was an MK II machine. In the future I may add a sixth button and turn it into a street-fighter layout.

Ya know... I never noticed that it looks like I'm cutting my dog's ear, but even a co-worker of mine was like, "What are you doing to your dog!?"  ;D

Open the dim monitor up and try turning the 'screen' control up a bit.  Do it while the monitor is on and plugged in to the computer so you can get a good picture.

Anybody can see that he's not cutting the dog's ear.  He's crimping it.  Big difference!

From your site:

but they told me that if I'd come and get them they would give me both of them for free! So I booked it up there and grabbed them both, brought them home, and tested them - and both worked! The one that's going in the cab looks great, but the one that will be my spare doesn't like to go very bright before it gets cranky and starts to look like crap.

It's getting closer to being done! As I write this I'm installing XP SP2 on the mame pc. As usual I've posted a couple more pics to the website:

Just got my marquee today from mamemarquees.com! They did an incredible job - two thumbs way up. I posted a picture of it at my site (link is in my sig), and hopefully later tonight I'll have time to get the marquee mounted on the cab.

It's almost finished! Yay!

Well it's been like 4 months since I got my marquee and installed it, and just now did I get my lazy ass around to posting two pictures of the finished cab.

Now that it's finished, I'd like to give a HUGE thanks to all of you here at BYOAC. I don't think I've ever seen a friendlier community anywhere else.

Great cab, but that monitor is way too small. It looks lost in there.

Nice, but please... put in a bigger monitor.  The games deserve at least that.  I like the green coin door.  First time I'd seen that.

Lol, I know I know, the monitor is the first thing that will get upgraded when I get the chance. I picked it up for free, so I can't complain.

I think on any cab if the monitor is too small it just looks lost.

Postage stamp! :)

Even throw a 21" TV in there at least for the short term.  You can pick them up super cheap these days.

Is it me or does anyone else have the song "green door" stuck in their head now? Nice to see something a little different

And hey, even if you have to wait until you can afford a bigger monitor it still beats the hell out of sitting at a desk trying to play Robotron with a keyboard.

Dude, I may have to give you a 17" monitor because it pains me to see that tiny thing in there.
