Title: Zoom out TV picture
Post by: Gradius on November 11, 2004, 09:43:20 am
With the service menu of my TV it seems imposible to change horizontal size (only position). Do you think I will be able to control this, or a general zoom out of the picture on screen, if I open up the case and look for some internal mechanism? It's a modern 21" Thomson tvset.

TV sets usually have "hidden" options for service technicians. Perhaps there's some info on the net on how to access this...

There may be a hidden option, but its not that common.

I'm guessing here that you are using tv-out from a PC, and the picture is "overscanning" - the edges of the pic are beyond the edge of the screen? If so check you graphics driver/software - I know ATI radeon cards have software which lets you control position and size from your pc which is a much more preferable solution to messing with you tv.....

Some 3rd party utils I think can do this - serach for info on you gfx card....

You can also crack the tv open and adjust that monkey claw yourself, although you might need a plastic allen wrench, if all it has is a horizontal width coil.

I have "fixed" so many broken tvs just by opening them up and adjusting them.

It's an ArcadeVGA pluged into the TV via SCART socket. I've taken a look at the ATI control panel and there are options for changing picture position, but not for resizing. If you can remember any of those utilities for controling picture size, please tell me.

I've already tested Powerstrip, not with the Avga card, but with a Geforce 1 DDR. The problem is that I'm almost sure that adjusting sizes with this program will result in altering timings and refresh rates, and I don't want to get other refresh rates dfferent from 60,000hz.
