I have found a cheap used scan converter (much cheaper than a video card with TV out). What would you guys suggest to output to TV. What are the pros and cons of using a scan converter instead of a video card. Would the onboard memory on a video card boost my frames per second or will it just get me output to a tv.

Well,
no matter how good your scan converter is,tv still suck.
It doesn't make a lot of difference when it comes to tv.
If you got a deal on $1000+ scan converter that has rgb input and outputs vga then get the converter and use windows on arcade monitor.
i heard most do 640x480.
Some converters even do 800x600.
An ati video card is best solution for tv so dont bother using scan converter if you are using tv.

Does the scan convertor output anything decent? like svideo or component? or just RCA?
If RCA, get a ATI with svideo out or the component dongle if your TV can handle component.
However, if oyu plan on just playing older games, the scan convertor is just fine.

The scan converter puts out s-video as well as composite. It seems though that the auction has some last minute bidders that took it up high enough that I will get an ATI card instead.
SNAAKE, my cabinet is a mulitpurpose unit. It is not only my arcade cabinet, but my Television and my recording studio. I have a home project digital recording studio that uses Logic Audio. I need a large television to get all of my mixing components on one screen as well as a way to watch College Football and play arcade games. It seems the TV is my best choice to accomplish all of this.

Then go with ati card..
Ati rage fury is only like $35 these days. That card is great for tv out.It outputs s-video.
