Hi guys,,
I'm going to use a 20inch tv with S-Video (No money for component) for use in a cab that will play PS2 and have a Video out from my computer to it, in S-Vid.
I read some gearhead threads about it, but is it livable? I mean, I'm not looking for the most insane perfect picture, just to play them decent looking. Should I bother? (No way do I have the money to waste on a TV with component.)

im using RCA.. and its just fine..
no not component RCA cable just a single rca cable for video input..
text sucks in windows, but games look just fine.. ^_^

now mind you, im not hardcore.. im your average gamer who really could care less if the true blue is slighly darker.. if you ask someone hardcore you might get the OMG GET A ARCADE MONITOR OMGWTFBBQ TVS ARE HELLA GAY OMGOMG.. but personally, the cost dont justify the price difference..
now if it was a dedicated single game machine, id prolly say get the real arcade monitor just so it was authentic.. but truth be told, every game ive played looks as good as they did when i went to the arcade to play em..

It's not so much the color purity as it is the crispness of the picture.
19" arcade monitors are about the same $ as their TV counterparts. Much less if you get them used.
25" and larger OTOH, are much more expensive, but still in an approximate price point to their TV counterpart.

Thanks, I'm going to TV route, since I already have it, and I'm going to be using it as a regular TV as well, it just makes more sense.
I'm psyced, now if only I could deside on a Cabinet plan....

My buddy uses a 27 inch TV with s-video off of a Radeon 7200. It looks awesome for everything except...
A. Windows (duh!)
B. Vector Games
C. Visual Pinball
...so if none of those are a priority, you're good to go!

Hey,
I'm doing the exact same thing as you. I have the s-vid for the computer and Ps2 hooked up also...I have both sound cables going to a sub using a headphone splitter. The picture is good for mame.
might want to set your windows for extra large display...for the fonts...otherwise perfectly usable.
