Title: Color Galaga - Is there a ROM for it?

I was at a local sports bar, and they had this Ms Pac Man / Galaga machine there. Thing is this Galaga had colored stars, and your ship shot ALOT faster. As soon as I got home I checked like all 5 different Galaga ROMS I have and no colored/fast Galaga :(

So basically does it exist as a ROM? Is it OK to ask for the ROM name?

Although I did just try a couple of different Galagas out, and they all had coloured stars...

Yea some have em, but this one just had more or something. More colors I guess, I only played it for 1 credit as I didnt have a free credit button ;) But the main difference was the speed of your ship's fire - it was like rapid fire compared to standard Galaga.

I love me some Galaga =)

Also, I have noticed the Galaga stars seem a lot more colorful on larger monitors. It was probably just the monitor size, either that or the sucker was out of convergence.

Did they fix this problem? If so, might be time to upgrade my MAME...

In the latest versions of MAME there is no Fast Shoot ROM, you just need to enable the fast shoot cheat in the regular Galaga ROM.

I guess the speed isn't really ROM dependent, so they took it out. (?)

I believe everything in Galaga is done except for the starfield and the discrete sounds.

The starfield isn't done because (IIRC) it's a custom chip with little/no documentation on it.

The sounds haven't been done because no one is working on the discrete sounds for it, that I'm aware of.

Problem is that when the games are in there for a while, no one wants to work on the 'older' stuff. It's not 'fun' anymore. The fun is getting newer games to work. So the older stuff sits there.

There is a new emulator called Tickle (http://www.ascotti.org/programming/tickle/tickle.htm) that has a lot of the stuff Mame is lacking emulated in. Read the notes on Galaxian/Galaga.

I have looked for the fast shoot cheat and have also tried swapping galaga.zip with galagads.zip. Couldn't find the fast shoot cheat, and swapping the zip files didn't enabel fast shoot either. Others have posted this working, it just doesn't work for me. ???

Could you tell me where to turn the fast shoot cheat on? I'm running mame v.83.
