I sent an email to Andy about this, but I thought I would ask here as well...
I'm having some trouble getting my trackball working. I've got everything wired up but I'm not getting any response from it. My MiniPac is set to USB and the keyboard controls seem to be working fine. I'm running Win98SE and my device manager shows a "USB Composite Device" which is running properly. I also just tried my XP machine and it came up with composite device, trackball, and something like human machine interface but the trackball still did not function.
I've verified that I am getting +5V to the cables connected to both encoder boards and checked continuity in the cables for TX and TY 1 and 2 (detector outputs). How should I go about troubleshooting this?
The most likely scenarios to me would seem to be USB driver issues or a loose wire. Neither of these "appear" to be the case to me so I'm not sure what else to try. Suggestions?
The trackball I purchased is the special Mini-PAC model with pull-up resistors.

Well, I never got a reply from Andy but after some looking around on his site I found a troubleshooting guide for the Ultimarc trackball. Once I saw that I realized that I had been using the wrong pinout for the trackball connector. I switched the wires around and it worked!

It's a short section at the bottom of the Opti-PAC installation page.
