Title: Distance between controls
Post by: dagimp69sme on November 02, 2004, 10:32:33 pm

I've been searching on-line and I was wondering if anyone knew the standard distance between player controls on a fighting game such as SFII.  I'm just wondering because I'm making a 4-player control panel and I want to keep player 1 and player 2 the 'correct' distance apart. :)

Secondly, if I use this standard distance, does anyone know if I can sneak a track ball in there? :)

Thanks,
Ryan

Well cowboy you are going to be disappointed because there isn't a standard distance because the vast majority of Streetfighter games were conversions.

It actually doesn't matter. It isn't possible to get the buttons too close to the joystick, so it isn't something to worry about.

Also on many machines there was NO distance between player one and player two. Both SF2 machines I have owned have been that way.

btw, buy a cheap piece of press board (whatevers cheapest... I got some crap for 5 bucks for a 4x8 sheet) and try a few different possiblities.  Don't finish it until after you like it.  I've redone my 2player SF control panel maybe 4 times now (6 buttons, 7 buttons, curved buttons, ect) and still considering doing it again (I want the 7thg button on the bottom left instead bottom right).

So cut a few boards in the right side... and make sure its comfortable to play next to someone.

I'm with lilwolf. Get some pressboard and give it a try. I was trying at first with carboard, but it sucks, but the I got pressboard. Pressboard is really cool and the mockups are real good.

Remember to wear a mask when drilling, really dusty!!
