Title: Hagstrom KE72 vs. IPAC
Post by: DZuroff on September 17, 2002, 05:53:16 pm
I know the obvious choice in a keyboard encoder for an arcade cabinet is the IPAC, however about a year ago I thought I would begin to buy parts I would need to build a cabinet so when it comes time for me to build I would have a big head start.  Unfortunately, I didn't learn about the IPAC until after I purchased the Hagstrom KE72.  I have seen a lot of good things about the KE72, however one post I can recall has me a little nervous.  Someone mentioned there is a small delay between when a button is pressed and when that key press is encoded.  Is this true?  If so, is there a way to work around this?  Or should I accept the $120 loss and go out and buy an IPAC?   :o  Are there any other issues with the KE72 I should know about before getting started?

I've never heard a bad thing about hagstroms other then they cost more.

Ipac's with their new config on the fly makes it my first choice... but the hagstroms are great also.

btw, the hagstoms are considered the down right best by many if money is not option.

btw, do you have any problems getting chun le to do her leg kick?  Or can you run fast in track&field?  Quick checks there

I bought the Hagstrom KEUSB-36 and I love it.  The only problem is that it can only support 6 simultaneous button presses.  Later on, I plan to upgrade to the KE-72T and use my USB-36 for a cocktail cab since it would be running mostly classic games and have no need for 6 buttons at a time.  Hagstrom's customer service and product documentation is fantastic and I wouldn't go anywhere else.

I use the KE72-T and I absolutely love it.  No delays or any other problems that I've seen.

I concur.... got a KE-72 and no delays.  Works awesome!  The only drawback, IMO, is the lack of a "shift" function, like the I-PAC.  I *really* like the shift function 'cause you can really reduce clutter on the control panel while increasing functionality. :)  If Hagtrom had this, I'd say go with the KE-72, hands down.
