Title: Monitor Advice for project

Hi There,

This weekend I just began my second MAME project.  i picked up a Neo Geo 25" candy cab.  I plan on turning it into a MAME beast.

Now, it has no monitor.  I want to use an arcade monitor.  I can modify the brackets to hold any 25" monitor.

The cabinet is Jamma ready.  I plan on using an Arcade VGA card of course.

I'm trying to keep the price down on the project, but I want to be able to play any MAME game on this cab with no distortion.

What monitors do you guys suggest I look into?

Would any 15Htz used monitor work for any game with the Arcade VGA card?

Is Well Gardner my only option?

Any advice on places to buy high quality used arcade monitors either online or in the Los Angeles, CA area?

Any advice and helpful comments are truly appreciated?

No specific advice on the monitor, but you might post on rec.games.video.arcade.collecting - I'm sure someone local is bound to have a monitor they'll sell you.  As you say, any 15Hz standard res arcade monitor should work fine with the ArcadeVGA.

Not monitor-related, but if you haven't already you'll want to make sure it's actually wired for JAMMA and not MVS (which the cab would ordinarily be unless someone's rewired it).    http://www.hardmvs.com has a diagram with the differences in their Downloads section.  For MAME cab purposes, the main thing to watch for is the stereo MVS audio as opposed to JAMMA mono.

I've got a Super Neo 29 I'm struggling with artwork ideas for myself...  I think DYNAGOD's Egret has set the bar pretty high for those of us around here hoping to put together respectable candy cabs.  ;)

Man, those 29" Candy Cabs are sweet.  Mine's only a lowly 25", but i still dig it.

It is wired for Jamma, not MVS.  I made sure of that before I picked it up.

Well I'm going with a new hantarex polo/3 (although 21") for mine as I like the fact that it can plug straight into the mains with no need for a separate transformer.

Order a "new" 25" monitor from 8-liners.com

Cheaper than happ and all them.

I have the 29" candy myself, but the monitor is tough to rotate, mine has been vertical for a while because of that.
