Title: Wiring up a TV to turn on?
Post by: dmish82 on November 01, 2004, 01:11:52 pm
Hi,

I have a TV i bought that does not power back on when power is cut off using a Smart strip or with just a regular outlet (only TV i could buy that would fit in my cabinet). It is a 27" Sansui and I was wondering if anyone has tried or knows of a way to wire up the TV to turn back on after power is cut off to it since the Smartstrip is unable to turn my particular TV on. I was thinking of something along the lines of using a relay and connecting it to the power switch somehow but who knows. Thanks.

Depends, is the power button a momentary switch? Or on/off? Using a relay would work fine for on/off, might be a bit of a bugger to get working with a momentary switch. When you turn it on, it would have to send a short signal, and then when you turn it off, another short signal.

I had the same scenario with the smart strip and my TV.  I ended up buying a cheap universal remote and taking it apart, connecting the power button of the remote to an arcade pushbutton.  Then I extended the IR emitter to in front of the TV so when you press the pushbutton attached to the remote it turns on the TV.

Or you could go with the ultra low-tech, yet cool and effective way: http://www.ysib.com/zoom/monitor.html
