I never really played Ms. Pac-Man in arcades much or noticed it, but apparently it's very common to only find a hacked version of Ms. Pac-Man with a speedup boost. My friend says the only times he's ever played it was when she was sped up (but not the ghosts) and found it unplayable when I showed him the mame/namco museum version.
on mame there's this speedup cheat but it basically just makes everything go two times as fast, but he insists the ones he's played, only Ms. Pac-Man goes extra fast, is this possible on mame?

there is a clone of Ms. Pacman that does this...you just need to find the rom

What version of Mame are you using that has the ghosts sped up as well?
All the older versions of mame have the exact old school speed up ms pac-man as a dip switch option. Apparently some GENIUS took that out because it wasn't authentic enough for him. Or maybe not. I am not completely up on the latest changes, but I seem to recall they took out the speedup options for the pac games.

I'm running v.62 and yeah for regular ms pacman it has the cheat ability to turn on double speed and the ghosts go fast too, but then I found a second version of ms pacman with the above speedup...so is that really how it was in arcades most of the time? man spoiled players lol

I have never seen it (mame or real life) where the ghosts go fast too. Although I have heard of it.
Every location I know that is still running a Ms. Pac has it on speedup. I can usually get 20+ minutes out of one.

I'm running mame .87 and the "fast pac" option is still there in the menu (I haven't tried it). It is fun I guess but really taints the high score so I don't use it. Cheating is for wusses! ;D

I had never actually played the speedup version until I tried it in an arcade this past summer (I put the high score on it with one quarter ;D ) I remember when Pacman and Ms. Pacman were new in the arcades and we were happy with regular speed!
Anyway... I decided to change my machine to do the speed up. (I use MAME .71)
All I had to do was add Cheat =1 (or whatever the syntax is) to mame.ini and then change the dip settings when the game ran.
Good luck,
Rocky

Some backstory:
For the longest time mame had an inaccurate cheat hack installed to speedup only pacman and not the ghosts.
On real pacman machines with the updated (hacked) eprom chips installed the entire game ran faster, not just pacman.
As of a few versions ago mame relflects this by removing the hack and instead supporting versions of pacman with the updated eproms.
If you can still use the old, inaccurate hack in mame is unknown to me. Just keep in mind... if you can, you never were supposed to and you are indeed cheating big time.
