Title: St. Louis auction report
Post by: paigeoliver on October 30, 2004, 10:21:06 pm
Pricing was strange. Overall it seemed cheap stuff was a bit higher than normal and a lot of the classics were going a bit low. Specifically Williams cocktails, as almost every Williams Cocktail in existance was there and they were going LOW. Bubbles for $200. Joust $450. Moon Patrol $210, etc, etc, etc.

I sold my Mame for $800.

I bought a Williams Pro Tennis 4 player that worked, but could use some recapping action for $50. (This is a 4 player Pong clone, upright, good shape, last tax sticker on it expired in 1975).

I also bought a Magical Touch bartop that didn't power up, for $25. As soon as I got it home I tried an AT power supply in it and it powered right up and booted. It should work perfect as soon as I connect the OTHER power connections.

I bought a dead jap slot for $25.

Finally I bought a complete (and apparently NOS) kit for a game I have never heard of, Dark Horse: World Derby Championship. It appears to be an 8-liner harness, it came with board, 2 sides of sideart and two control panels (the control panels still had the peel back plastic on them).

Dave bought a "dead" jap slot for $20 that powered right up when he plugged it in. He also bought a "US Games" bartop touchscreen that was powering up to a keyboard error ($80), we plugged in a keyboard and it works flawlessly. The battery on the motherboard will need to be replaced to operate it without a keyboard.

I saw alot of KLOV members there and quite a few BYOAC and RGVAC members as well.

I will post more details later, as I still have a "Pro Tennis" (Pong) to carry into my house.

Ok, abit more about that horse board.

Mongo said he thought it was 8-liner pinout, BUT I looked at the board good and said to myself, "no way, wrong amount of pins, that is jamma". It is JAMMA and boots up to garbage. I reseated the chips and still got garbage, BUT it seems like a very new game, AND if you touch any of the caps in the audio area you get a loud squeal. I am betting that it has bad caps, as A LOT of defective caps went out a few years back.

I searched both google and google groups and found ZERO mention of this game.

BUT this is apparently an undumped game and although the control panels seem gambling based, it isn't actually a gambling game as there is no payout!! It only has the JAMMA edge connector and two JAMMA plus connectors which match up via ribbon cable to the 2 control panels.

Isn't that that Game where you have 4 players each riding a fiber glass horse? I saw it in my Odessey Fun World in town a few years back. But since you have control panels it might be a button masher type game to make the horse run faster?

Scratch that I was mistaken did some searching for ya it looks as if it was made in 1982. here is a link about it or atleast its flyer.

Nope, that isn't it. This board is JAMMA and this board has a 36 MHZ processor on it, neither one of which existed in 1982.

It also doesn't appear to be "Dark Horse Legend" either as it doesn't have a CDROM connection (or drive, or disc). Apparently there was another Dark Horse game inbetween those two.

Sorry for letting this lapse. But is there bootleg boards? Sorta like someones idea of what should work with certain items? Or possiblie a remake board?

Sorry if these are newbie questions just trying to help :)

No one has been bootlegging modern boards since Street Fighter 2. Also this game came with full sideart (with some great Engrish on it), as well.

I am sure this is just a game that has slipped under the US radar. It may or may not be related to any of the other dark horse games, but it isn't the same one.

I'll be attempting to repair the board eventually. Wish I had a few more modern boards so I could try swapping out the processors and such.

No dates on it. The graphics on the artwork look late 90s. If it was sitting in front of me I could likely peg down a good estimate simply by looking up chips.

It is loaded with 4 meg eproms, so it can't be too old.

Oh, and the control panels are small and have about 40 buttons each, all based on horse gambling, but like I said, the game has no payout unless it is incorrectly running a hopper off of the jamma harness instead of a feature connector.

Could it be a Dark Horse 2 in a Dark Horse Cab?

There isn't any cabinet, just the kit in a box. Dark Horse and Dark Horse 2 both run on the same platform, which is a CDROM based platform, same one used for Fisherman's Bait. I know what those boards look like, and this just isn't it.

I need to get a new (working) digital camera so I can photgraph this stuff.

I just found the FCC sticker and the "For Amusement Only" stickers in the box. So I guess this IS a US game.

Of course it still comes from Japan. You can tell by the sideart, which advertises.

THIS IS THE BEST GAME!
AND MOST EXCITING GAME!
LETS DO IT!

I love having Engrish games!

My Uo Poko board makes the claim in attract mode that

"Violaters will be prosecutd to the full extent of the jam"

and yes that is how they spelled it too.

Plus, for the fun factor late model japanese jamma boards are an awesome buy. I think I spent $100 on my Uo Poko board, and it was well worth it. (Most are actually cheaper, I just had to get in on a group buy to get that one imported).

Look closely at that flyer. The game has no controls on it, at all.
