Just an idea.
As everyone seems to post their Control Panel layout in the Main Forum. I can't think of a CP layout that hasn't been discussed.
If you have one sticky, then everyone can post and review the various CP layouts that people have created in the past and decide which layout is best for them.

I think that's a good idea. It would be great if we put up some "standard" layouts. Or maybe a forum strictly for layout design?

or maybe a best of control panel layout that gets nominated then placed in there.
if all the "how's my control panel" post were placed in there those of us stuck on dial up would wait a while for them to load.

but you forget that most of the n00bs don't even read the stickies, so it wouldn't really solve anything. I think its a good idea though... just drop your layout in and get some criticism. It might get a bit confusing though also, if people don't mention who they are directing their ideas to.

I'm just a newbie here, but one of my thoughts when I first started reading these forums was that a single "Main Forum" seemed too generic.
I mean, software has their own forum, but "hardware" & "cabs" & "controllers" & "layouts" are all just lumped into a forum called "Main"? It just seemed/seems un-intuitive to me. I kept scanning the list of forums to find the "hardware" forum so I could read up on different joysticks, but to no avail.
I don't know if a forum strictly for "layout design" is warranted or not (I haven't thought about it enough to form an opinion on that) but I think that subdividing the "Main" forum is a great idea.

That might be a good division. I do like the idea of having a hall of fame for the Control Panels too, but are there enough unique ideas to warrant it? Right now CP layout design is kind of spread out and buried. If we combined them like this, we could document the controllers and relate that to the actual layout design, then keep the hardware needed for cabinet construction with cabinet design. It makes sense to me. The "odd-ball" stuff (ie: computer requirements) could stay in the main forum.
*Actually, since this is "Build Your Own Arcade Controls", maybe the CP layout should be the main forum and we should branch off the cabinet design to its own forum...?

See, I'd put "cabs" and "layouts" together, because (to me) they're both relating to the same thing, which is "design". How should I/how did you put that cab together? Is a screen at 85-degree angle better/worse than one at a 75% angle? Where should the buttons be on my cp etc.
And then I'd put "controls" and "hardware" together because (again, to me) those both relate to "parts". What pieces to use. Does this joystick work better than this other one? Why is that spinner good? Etc.
And I'd still lose the "Main" forum topic. It's just not descriptive.
But that's just me :)
