Title: Play station 2 joystick Interface
Post by: Ps2man5 on October 28, 2004, 07:59:30 pm
I'm trying to build a playstation 2 arcade style controller the came I play uses almost every button on the pad including both Joysticks.(James bond night fire, agent under fire)I understand that the joysticks are 16 position joy sticks.  How do Interface a four switch joy stick from happ controls to the controller or is it possible.

To be honest I don't know since those sticks are analog and I don't know if you can/how to hook up analog.

Usually when I build PS2 sticks I get a PS1 digital controller's circuit board and just use that

I was under the impression that they are anolog but the Ps2 controller board converts it to digital to where in the long run it is digital but don't know at what point of the board it gets turned to digital.  I might be completely wrong and my friend was feeding me a line of bullonie I don't know.  But if any one else knows anything else or any other websites i'd appritiate it.

Thanks

OMG!  Trust me the ps2 sticks are analog.  And yes, technically, they do need to be converted to digital to be processed by the PS2, but its not anything that you can hack (and it is not a 12-way stick).   If you can't understand this, then don't even bother thinking about how to hack analog controls to Happs digital sticks.  Its not something you are going to want to do anyway.  As blueoakleyz stated, just hack the digital ps1 pad and you will be better off.  If your intent in doing all this is to play 007 games on your arcade cabinet, then you will be sadly disapointed.

Wow, I feel better now.
