purchased golden tee pc from ebay (for $3 + shipping). Installed it and all works fine. My question. Can I make this cab friendly? For example, whenever I hit a long drive and break the longest drive record it asks me to enter my name. My cab won't have a keyboard on it, so is there a way to get around that? I can't just hit the mouse button unless I enter a letter or similar first (I guess maybe 1 of my buttons would enter a number or similar which would be enough to let me continue?). Just wondering how others are doing it.

I have not used GT but I run Tiger Woods and do have to use the keyboard for entering names the first time. Perhaps you could have a keyboard hidden inside the cab that you could access on rare occasions such as entering player's names? It's a minor inconvenience for the great joy golf brings me. :)

Yeah, I've got a pull out drawer with a keyboard and mouse on it just for the sake of a few PC games I have on my cabinet.

This was kind of discussed a while ago, but short of having a keyboard accessible, you can set up your cab so setting up a macro with a hotkey (ctrl-r, for example) brings up an on screen keyboard that will allow you to type using the mouse/trackball.
I've never seen specific instructions or suggestions for software for it other than one or two curory mentions. Do a search for 'golden tee keyboard', maybe.
I'm in the process of researching this.. I'll post my findings as soon as I get a chance.

if your control panel uses an ipac/keywiz or keyboard hack you could press 1 or more action buttons to insert randon character(s) then click just to get by...

ahh..hadn't thought about the on screen keyboard...windows has a built in on screen keyboard (%SystemRoot%\system32\osk.exe). Any ideas how I can launch this with a button push?

I'm not answering this on principle (I *just* said it).

I guess what I was getting at was that I can't figure out how to have a button that does a "control-r". I can map a key to a button...but how can you map 2 keys (control + r) to a button?

My gtg pc name usually ends up being asd.
Because my player 1 buttons are mapped as such
A S D
Z X Enter
With a switch X and Enter become mouse 1 and 2. Though thinking about it, I should just rewire Z and X to mouse 1 and 2 so enter is available without switching.

I don't know of a keyboard encoder that lets you do macros like that (since it's two key presses it's a "macro"), but it doesn't have to be Control-R. That was just an example.
Basically you want it something other than a key you would normally type in. Which would most likely limit you to a control, alt or shift sequence. And also means that you need to have either control, alt, or shift mapped as one of your buttons.
The last diagram on this page (http://www.groovygamegear.com/page13.html) shows how you can wire up two inputs on any keyboard encoder to fire at the same time with only one button, but I have never seen a real life example of this working for what you're trying to do. Give it a shot and let us know if it works :)
Like I said, I just got finished loading up a bunch of PC games on my cab and you really need the keyboard for a lot of them. Having a keyboard actually part of the cab is probably the most elegant solution, but short of that this kind of workaround will probably "just do".

my player names end up being like ZZXZ121 since those are characters that are already available on the control panel.
I did map the ENTER key though, there are just too many PC games tha require it.
You can use a wireless keyboard and leave it on top of the cab when you don't use it, but I don't find myself using the keyboard much, it detracts from the "arcade" experience.
Chances are popping up the onscreen keyboard will not work well with any DirectX based game (most fo them) because it will cause the game to minimize (DirectX games aren't design to share their screen real estate).
